Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the Liberal Government of Canada imposing the War Measures Act. This was the defining moment for Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Due to what was called the October Crisis the government took the ultimate step to stop the terrorism.

Trudeau gave a 21 minute televised speech explaining what happened and why he was invoking the War Measures Act.

This was a major turning point in Canadian history.

Didn't you post something about this not too long ago?
Yes, but that was just the lead up (background) to what the big story for Canada was.

Chretien must be pissed that he never got to invoke it. Isn't he taking off next february?
The act was repealed in 1988 and replaced with the Emergencies Act.

He should have taken the last 8 years off.
