On the stupidity of the other party

I don't think raw IQ and party affiliation are correlated in any meaningful way. My own opinion is that how one leans politically has more to do with how one has learned to cope with mental illness. I believe that our culture particularly and all human cultures to various degrees, are sick. They are characterized by the fact that people are verbally put down as children and universally so. From this fact two basic survival strategies arise. The liberal rebells at the injustice of his treatment and the conservative adopts and adjusts to it. Thus we get a culture of victims and victimizers, reformers and practitioners of the old. Each is locked in a circular battle like the yin and yang. And each contains the seed of the other. Only in seeing that common seed, the need to protect oneself from feeling bad, can parties come together and work for what should be the real aim of every society, the mental health of its people.

The unconscious aim of all mentally ill people is self destruction, the reliving of what has gone before. This is the psychological origin of the Apocalypse, the projection into the future of what happened in the forgotten past. We unconsciously lust to recreate what happened in the past so that we can re-experience those deeply repressed feelings. Nuclear war is only a manifestation of our psyche, the need to punish others for what happened to us. All our lives we circle like moths around the candle flame of our trauma.

It might help a bit to remember that the liberal and the conservative are opposite sides of a coin that is identically the same. Each suffers the same wounds and each is equally wounded. Love your counterpart because he is you. He or she is only vicious and spiteful because he or she has been hurt.

What if one isn't comforted by either party. Does that make one more stupider? ;)

I would imagine that there are as many parties as there are variations on cooping strategies.

Yeah, both parties are corrupt. But unlike other countries, these are the only choices we have.

Unless your a True Socialist + vegetarian + uber hippie then you have the choice of voting for a Green Party candidate.

Why would anyone want to be anything else?

Or you could be a true Fascist + bigot + uber right-wing nutjob and then you have the choice of voting for Bush.

In all seriousness, isn't the Green Party farther left than the Demoncrat party? So the uber hippie latte drinking Volvo types Runner20 eloquently describes should love the Greens. I never look up the platforms of these communist infiltration societies so I don't know off hand.

Both parties want the same thing and that is what they believe is best for the country. On most important issues they generally agree, the rub comes from how to get there from here. They both want to travel the route that is best for them, their pocketbooks, their family, and their friends. I think it will always be that way.

Send not to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.
