on the receiving end of fraud

so i ordered an mp3 player on Ebay. I was suspicious because they only accepted checks, money orders, and bidpay. When i won the bid, the guy who was in las vegas told me to send the payment to some chick in a trailer park in florida.
This freaked me out, but they had a 50 positive feed back, so i emailed their other buyers, who bought similarly priced items. They all confirmed that that is how they sent payment, and their items came through.

well i send the payment, he sends an email saying the items on it's way. 2 days later ebay sends me a notice that his account has been suspended and all his items removed from ebay. sh!t. but i have a tracking number... i go to pick up the package wondering if it's a 2lb rock. Instead it's my mp3 player... in an amazon box... with an amazon invoice... a gift receipt... from a woman in NY.

so obviously this guy hacked some broads amazon account and sold stuff on ebay from it.

should i feel bad, or good that i got a $160 mp3 player for $95?

cliffs:
bought mp3 player on ebay
ebay closed sellers account
recieve "gift" item anyway from an amazon account.
profit???

Talk to your local police, better yet call the Feds.
You'll get Karma. The good kind, just ask Earl.

Yah. That'll be the right thing to do but prepare for your funds to be tied up for a while. Also the cops will most likely confiscate the player.

well i already sent the money order. so the money is out of my hands. do you think they'd confiscate the player? screw doing the right thing if it makes me out $100 and with no mp3 player. how the hell is it my fault that some lady can't secure her password?

So you bought stolen goods. Hopefully the FBI won't come knocking on your door when that poor woman who got her amazon acct stolen files for fraud through her CC company.

i'd do somthing, contact the lady or something. Sooner or later she'll find out about it and won't be happy and It not very hard to look up the address the mp3 player was sent to.

keep it, i had someone buy stuff off of me with a stolen paypal account about 3 years ago. i had already given my goods to the perp and i sure as hell wasn't going to give my money away along with it. i did get a better than average deal on the items, and when the person called who's account got hacked, i told him to pound sand or get my items back from the guy who stole his account info.

i'm guessing she already found out, considering ebay closed the guys ebay account right after i bought the thing. i kept expecting to get a message from ebay, or amazon, but niether has happened. They have a record of everything, so you'd think one of them would have asked if they needed any extra information.
