AMEX customer service has always been good with me, but I've only had to deal with em a couple of times. I realize this has nothing to do with your post, but whatever :D

Last time I called amex it was SCARY.

I was on hold for 45 minutes, 15 minutes into it I dialed them on my cell phone too.

The cell phone had an operator pick up before the other phone did. The rep needed to check on something and told me he was putting me on hold.

"I'll be back, give me two minutes"
"I'm timing you!"

Needless to say, he was on the dot.

Last time I called Amex it was one of the best CSR experiences I have had.

ME: I purchased a dvd burner online almost 2 years ago and it no longer works"

AMEX: What was the date and purchase price? Was the entire purchase made with your AMEX card?

ME: date was xx\xx\xx price was $xxx.xx (about $120 at that time) and it was all made with the AMEX.

AMEX: Give us a few days to verify and we will get you a check.

About a week later I got a check for the full amount and dind't have to return any hardware or fax/mail any receipts.

That's pretty incredible....sounds similar to the Costco Return Policy!

I think Amex extends the warranty an additional year past the original factory warranty

Yup.

ALL of my computer-related purchases are made with my AMEX though I think some Visa/MC issuers are following suit. The best thing is that it doesn't cost any extra / annual fee AND you are refunded the original price.
I bought a dvd burner for $120 and 2 years later a better one is only $45 and AMEX still gives me my original cost.
