On the last day of your class in college in a quarter/semester, did you and others applaud the professor?

At my school, a UC, this was very common and expected on the last day of the quarter..and from talking to others who went to UCs this was universally accepted. And while any didn't understand it or support it, the majority would accept it as common practice.

However after talking to several people not from UCs and from other colleges, this was almost unheard of.

Don't you go to UC Berkely?

They are strange there.

I've never even heard of anyone applauding a professor. I doubt I would, as I have had few that deserved it.

I go to Purdue, and I've never see it done. If I really like a professor, I'll go up to him/her, shake their hand, and thank them personally.

I went to ucla and the class do applaude, from what I remember it was only in the upper division classes and only if the prof. was one of the better ones.

I did not go to a UC school and applauding your professor was unheard of.

I went to UC Riverside and I've only seen it done a few times, and only then because the particular professor was very good and the class was enjoyable.

But other than that most college students bone out as soon as the bell rings.... me included.

We applauded my summer Biology professor at Cornell when the class was done. He did a wonderful speech on conservation at the end.

At UC Davis, I noticed that the only classes that applauded were the GE classes. My technical CS/Engineering classes never applauded (instead the whole class would be angry at the end at the Prof for giving such a hard final exam and/or final project :p )

Went to UW (University of Wisconsin) and this was common/expected. But we're looking at lectures that range from 25-350+

At my school, we take the professor out and get drunk. I think this is much better than applauding.

It has been done in one of my larger lecture classes, since the professor was great.

There are a number of classes in which I had an excellent professor. After the final class, I would go up to the professor, shake hands, and thank him or her for a great semester.

Same here. It was a sign that the professor really sucked if they weren't applauded. There were very few that I've had that got no applause.
