Hi,

I bought two Gigabyte 7VRXP motherboards and have tried everything I could to start them up,but I can't get them to POST. No beeping at all. Screen doesn't come out of sleep mode. Only the fans spin up, along with the HDD. The CD-ROM's LEDs liight up and I can open the trays. The floppy drives' light stays lit continuously. I'm hoping it's something really stupid that I am overlooking.

I have installed only the video cards, memory, HDD, and CD-Roms (along with CPUs and HSFs).

Actually, I once got one to boot and could go into CMOS BIOS setup, but since it was not my primary system, I wanted to put my primary components in, so I swapped in my CPU, HDD, CDROM, and video card. Then I couldn't get it to POST. Stupid me!!!

one has a 2000+, the other has a 2100+.
One has a leadtek Geforce4 4600, the other has a PNY Geforce4 4400.
Both have 431 watt power supplies.
Both have 512MB Corsair DDR3000 CAS 2 memory.
One has a Pioneer DVD-burner, the other a Yamaha CD-RW
Both have a Silverado HSF
Both have a Teac floppy drive
Both have WD Caviar drives (not like this makes a difference if I can't even POST?!?)
Have been switching machines to and from MS Office keyboard (USB) and intellimouse explorer (also USB).

And of course, both have more hardware, but not installed yet.

FSB set at 133. Computer turns on, fans run, no beep, Power light turns o
n, HDD light sometimes turns on. Can feel HDD in one system spin up. Floppy drive light stays lit. Again, cannot get into BIOS setup, Monitor does not enter from sleep mode. Tried booting from FSB 100 and still didn't work.

The setup that worked once (before stupid me swapped out the parts) was the 2000+, Yamaha CD-RW, PNY Geforce4.

Does it make a difference whether the machine will POST or not if the HDD or CD-RW drives are installed? Technically, I shouldn't need to connect the HDD or CD-ROM to get them to post, should I?

I really want to try Morrowind with my new Leadtek card! can you understand how frustrating this can be!?!

I feel dumb asking this question, but is DDR3000 cas 2 memory too fast for this board? I am going to try some PC2700 memory.

Any suggestions to get these machines to POST? seems more like user error than faulty MBs?/ what are the chances that I am sent two faulty motherboards?

I would check the power switch to the mobo...I have had the same thing happen to me a couple times with different mobos, just do trial and error plugging the power switch in to the mobo. That would cause everything to turn on accept the mobo(fan, HDD, floppy, cdrom), at least it did in my case.

No such thing as memory being to fast for a system.

Put the system that posted back together the same way you had it, after you have it working, start swapping componets (one at a time), until it won't boot. Possibility that you have a bad stick of ram, or one of the componets is not seated properly.

Don't get stressed out over it, just take it one step at a time until you isolate the problem. :D

Thanks for your response. Is it possible that I have bad power supplies? I bought two of the same; both Enermax.

I'll try to get those parts back together again!

i had pretty much the exact problem. bdog231 suggested it was possibly a bad bios chip. he said:

"I had an EPox board die on me. It would start up but there was no video, all it needed was a new BIOS chip."

if you're taking this approach, call gigabyte customer support and ask them about this....hope this help....on behalf of bdog231. :)

Swap out all of your cables, IDE, floppy, ect.
Make sure they are inserted correctly.
Check your standoffs, they have been known to short.
Try another PSU

This junk happens to the best of us, stay cool.
