Orbitz Worldwide Inc. OWW -1.16% has found that people who use Apple Inc.'s AAPL -0.23% Mac computers spend as much as 30% more a night on hotels, so the online travel agency is starting to show them different, and sometimes costlier, travel options than Windows visitors see.

Thoughts on why? Wealthier? Willing to pay for quality? More frivolous with money?

Obviously, the same reason they bought a Mac in the first place. More money and more willing to spend it on things that you can brag to others about.

Less intelligent with more money to burn. I can't say I blame Orbitz.

As a lifelong PC user I do have to say that Apple does sometimes make all the PC makers look like total morons. That's why I ended up with a Macbook Air running Windows for my current laptop instead of the craptacular models that compete with it.

As to the OP I'd assume that they have some research showing that Apple users generally have more disposable income than PC users, not exactly a major reach.

Will this mean the virus writing community will start taking Mac platform serious enough to infect for money or will they still to windows since if i understand correctly hackers prefer Mac computers.

this makes perfect sense , since apple customers are rich and like to spend extra money
it is quite brilliant , whoever at Orbitz thought of this deserves a nice bonus

all websites should check for safari browser and add 20% to all orders from apple customers

Any company that can capitalize on the "stop thinking and just buy this" Apple mentality is OK with me. I find it hilarious.

I don't see any problem with this. They're just using the information they have to customize the shopping experience. If they use this method to show you exactly what you want at the top of the list of hotels, you've both won right?

I'm assuming they are showing apple customers travel options that are actually better in addition to being more expensive though.

so they're presented with different and more expensive options (which factually they tend to be more interested in) , not being charged more for the same product or service (which is what i would have done). so what?

merc s-class rolls up to the car wash
"would you like the super deluxe auto bathing with platinum membership?"
"yes"

A good cup of hot cocoa and an Apple bashing thread is just what I need to start off the day.

Good job
