??? on Lite-On 24102B CD burner

I just bought the Lite-On 24102B cd burner and installed it yesterday. It seems to work fine as long as I only use the Nero software that came with it. The main problem that I have is that W2K is only recognizing it as a CD-Rom not a CD/RW. Can anyone tell me what should be done? Thanks

Explain more please... you say Nero works but 2K doesn't recognize it as CDRW? Win2K doesn't have built in recording like XP does. If you're trying to do RW discs, you'll need to install InCD (should be on your nero disc) or a similar packet writing software. That will then let the drive be used to drag and drop files.

I had a Smsung 8x burner installed before and W2K listed it as a CD/RW drive (when you went to the hardware manager). Now it just shows up as a CD-Rom. I installed the InCD from Nero and it works fine, I just figured that the drive should show up as a burner not a rom.

If what you are referring to is the description in the Device Manager, I wouldn't worry about it. If Nero Burning Rom & InCD work, then you're fine.

I have the same drive in my Win2k system and it too is seen as a "CdRom" device. It burns, though.

yeah... everything seems normal there.

but in any case,
do a firmware upgrade.
and another very important thing...
upgrade your nero to the latest version. even within 5.5xx... there's a huge diff.

What are the latest version numbers for Nero and the Liteon 24x firmware?

The lattest firmware for the liteon 24102B is 5S54, I'm looking into Nero now.
