Apparently you don't get personalized service at many places.

Au contraire. If a company has a customer on hold for 45 minutes, they obviously don't care about you....therefore I take my business elsewhere.

Hes got a point...but you also have to consider E*Trade is a huge company and it is a Monday....so they might be a little slow

Obviously they need to hire more customer service people if they are so big.

Depends. Not that they don't care about you, none of them do, it's just that you get what you pay for. If a company picks up the call and talks to you in 5minutes you are paying for that service (to care for you) in some form or another. A company that offers $10trades for stocks isn't likely going to pick up the phone as fast as one that charges $30+.03/share, etc or has monthly maintenance fees, etc. Same thing in any business really. You can shop around but you'll pay for it eventually.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Time = Money, so, if you are in need of frequent personalized service then it would be worthwile switching to somebody else. ETrade is designed for those who want to do things themselves, for those who need to call, they have to wait. I imagine (I don't know) that etrade may have a special # for people who do large volumes of transactions with them/etc.

/Not affiliated with Etrade, however I do have an account with them.
