On Disk Raid (ODR) or Raid On Disk (ROD)?
Could an entire raid-0 system be built into a single disk form factor?
Are their any advantages to such an arrangement?

Wow, nice HTML dude.

The advantage of RAID (redundant Array of inexpensive driveS) is in using multiple drives to (striping) speed up operations by splitting information over several disks. I cant see how striping information on a single drive would even remotely increase performance. What's the idea behind this idea?

I don?t have any great ideas about placing and entire raid system in a single disk form factor. However, I thought it would be enjoyable to read the creative and free-thinking responses to such a strange idea.

What do you do when one of the disks in your concoction fail?

The idea is easy speed. This setup would only be good for raid 0. Could it plug into a standard ide controller? Could intergrating the entire system into one device increase the speed? I know it is a dumb idea; I just wanted to ask.

I believe this has been tried for RAID 0, but was a commercial failure, since from the manufacturing point of view, it's far cheaper to make 2 drives with one set of read/write heads each (far bigger market), than one drive with multiple sets of read/write heads in the same drive (heat buildup is one of the problems).
