Im upgrading from a Duron 950 and aren't willing to spend much more on this, so i was wondering if it weren't a bad idea to try to o/c the 1700xp by adjusting the multiplier on-die; reasoning that aside from the danger of frying/scratching my chip once the mult is set its easier on my system as a whole. Im using 2100 Crucial ram so i probably won't have too high a fsb ceiling.
Any thoughts? Would setting it from 11x to 12x be a relatively reachable goal if the chip is a B? I figure one bridge to break and another to pencil in to mod the voltage. I'd be happy to settle for a stable 1900+ o/c.
Also, i was concerned that the official ECS bios updates didn't correctly enable SSE extensions in Thouroughbreds; should i use a o/c bios even if i don't plan to o/c that way?
