on TDR plots... slight bumps (not noise) in the voltage indicate an inductance or capacitance that's not similar to the characteristic capacitance/inductance in the vicinity.

apparently, you can calculate the value of the series inductance or shunt capacitance by integrating Z(t) or 1 / Z(t) over the half the bump.. what the hell is this :confused:

I don't believe it's another way of writing the standard definitions for L or C.

can you explain why you would integrate impedance?
This, I think, goes to the basics of transmission line theory. Transmission lines, depending on the operating frequency and length of the line(close to wavelength/4), could be represented by a long of chain of resistances and shunt cap/inductances.
