On A Scale Of 10, How Serious Do You Take ATOT?

I'm beginning to see the difference between the neffers and "Old Timers" here. Some people consider Off Topic to be a fertile neffing ground, others consider it a place to get feed back on serious issues. I'm in the latter group, so I am livid at the nefs that "crap all over" this board. On that scale of 10, I'm at about an 8. I like to goof off as much as anybody, but I'm not going to clutter the index page with garbage topics.

I was very happy to see the mods take a stand on the issue too. I don't envy them now, trying to come up with concrete boundaries, but this may give it a bit of an outline. If you think this is a place to come and act like a dick, go to AOL or something. Otherwise, your threads get locked without explanation and banning is only a few strikes away.

Obviously, I'd make a crappy mod! :)

i'm more serious than neffious. I should not say serious though, i usually am not serious, but i dont post "yeah" or "what ____ said." I usually have some substance.

I dont see the point.

I don't nef...or I can't remember the last time I ever did. But I've been around for a long time, seen nefs come and go (Hyper99 comes to mind), but I agree that there is too much crap around for the most part. It's one thing to have fun, it's another to be a moron and have no one care :) The recent lockdown in strictness hasn't been very appealing to me either... I'd say 7.5-8.0 IMO

int AnswerQuestion() {
int *seriousness;
seriousness = new int;
for (int z=10;z>=-1;z--) {
*seriousness = z; }
return *seriousness; }

[edit: incorrect syntax on lines 2, 5, 6]

I don't start that many topics myself. I think I may have started 15 in all. I may not always have the most profound things to say but I also only really come here to relax.

I can't give it a number, but I don't take it too seriously. Ocassionally I'll actually debate something and when I do it normally turns into a flame war, but I like posting here cause its fun, not just for the intellectual debates. I read most of them, but I'm pretty inarticulate when it comes to that stuff so I don't bother posting.

Edit: I'm curious Ornery would you have banned me by now? ;)

the asterisk denotes that it's a pointer to an integer, not an actual integer. Pointers point to memory addresses. the next line, seriousness = new int;, actually allocates memory, so that the pointer is now actually pointing to something in memory.

Oh, also, when you're using pointers, to acess the thing that it's pointing to (in this case, the integer it's pointing to), you need to also put an asterisk before it (like *seriousness = z, etc). If you modify seriousness without the asterisk, you're changing what memory address it points to, not the thing in that memory address.

It's generally a confusing topic to some, but if you can read up on it, the sooner you understand it, the better :)

are you proud of this ltk007? I guess this explains ur militant behavior in my threads. and some suggested that I should have been banned...how hypocritical.

ltk007, I don't know how I would go about policing the nef stuff. To me, it's a matter of attitude. If you are really seriously worried about an increase in belly button lint production, I guess you deserve to be soothed and reassured that it's nothing to worry about. (It isn't is it? :Q)

That's a judgment call by the mod on duty. Like I said, I don't envy them.

And personally, I don't care about neffing in a running topic. My concern is strictly about screwing up the index page (or Category page) with nef Topics.

No pamchenko, that had more to do with you and aryll being dumbsh!ts...

Militant behavior? I posted twice, obviously you don't know the meaning of a real flamewar.

Ornery, I think the mods don't mind neffing in moderation. It can be fun at times, OT isn't meant to be all intellectual debates ;) But when the board is filled with inane posts that neither stir the mind or at least provoke a minor chuckle, that seem to serve no purpose except to let people post "nef!" then its gone a little too far. Yeah, most people have neffed from time to time, but I don't think its a horrible thing if it doesn't happen a lot.

How serious do I take ATOT?

It depends on with whom I am conversing, or who I am reading, at any given time.

Lately, generously about a 2, not adjusting for inflation.

Well, how seriously do you think the mods take ATOT?I'd have to think it would be close to a 10 if they're going to volunteer their time to moderate it. Knowing that, can you blame them for the clamp down? Anyone giving them grief for it, ought to give the situation a little more thought, and the mods a little more consideration.
