I think ATI just kicked Nvidia in the crotch and Nvidia's down for the count.

I know what card I'll be using for Half-Life 2 if it ever comes out :D

the 6800u DID beat the x800 in some benchmarks. but the x800 still owns. check out the hardocp review they seem to do the x800 justice.

Thanks for your intelligent post. Did this require a new thread seeing there are infitismal related thread numbers already?

It doesn't really completely pwn it, however it does show it strengths with games that use Pixel Shaders and the such.... Which would be good for future games.

You can check out FS's oc benches here...

to be fair, i would wait to see how well an OCed X800 or X800XT performs

there pretty even with their own strength and weakneses . . . ;)

i am expecting at least 10-20% more performanc from fully mature 6800 drivers . . . much less from ati since the core is very similar to their old one.

For me it's gonna depend on PRICE and the software package that comes with the retail GPU - absolutely NO hL-2 coupon for me. :p

Hexus overclocked the X800XT and only got the core up to 535 from 520. It appears that ATi has clocked these cards as high as they possibly could. It reminds me of the 8500; I could only overclock mine to 290 from 275. :)

As for the 6800U I'm sure you could find an overclocking review of it. I think I heard somewhere of 450mhz or so. With high-end cards like these, it's usually pretty tough to overclock them, but we'll see once the retail cards ship.

I'm more interested in the soft-modding scene. I have a feeling it's only a matter of time, despite rumours to the contrary.

Performance wise they are dead even. No one won. But ATI won for ergonomics.:)

I agree. I've heard rumors of ATI cutting their pipelines, but I highly doubt that due to the extra cost/risk involved. Since there are now more pipelines per card (meaning a lot more raw pipelines, meaning more broken ones), there will probably be enough broken ones to go around for the x800 pros. So modding chances will be low.

Are there any reviews that doesn't use Athlon64 but a "normal" AXP to perform the benches?

I have another intelligent post for you. If you didn't like the thread why did you bother reading it, or ohhh wait... responding in the first place? These aren't the political forums, take your negativity elsewhere.

Are you also assuming ATI makes NO improvement with their drivers? What about OverDrive?

He responded because he had just as much of a right to as you had to make this thread. "Take your lame fanboyishness elsewhere".

The only place Nvidia got owned was Far Cry.... and it looks like they are working on that. Overall ATi and Nvidia both did a EXCELLENT job and made fantastic cards! It is so good to see them both doing well. I think Nvidia will win overall in price/performance with the GT especially with the reports of it being able to be OCed to Ultra Extreme levels, and reports are the Raedons dont OC well. Also nice to see Nvidia working on problem areas like FarCry...

Our driver team has been busy with stability, bugs and performance tweaks as we get closer to the ship dates for our OEM partners and add-in card partners. Areas of interest compared to 60.72 driver include:

5% boost in Aquamark
5% boost in X2 performance
5% boost in Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness performance
10% boost to Call of Duty performance
50% improvements in Far Cry performance

WOW, those are some nice driver improvements! Go nVidia driver team! This is the reason why I sold my 9800Pro, pocketed $200 after getting a 'replacement' Albatron 4600. Great for any game I play, and now I have more money to upgrade when PCI-E comes!

from the hothardware review:

X800Pro OC: "45MHz upside in the core and an 150MHz gain (75MHz X2) in the memory speeds for the Radeon X800 Pro".

overall ATi are still doing great.
Lets see how well Nvidia can improve the drivers..
then again, NVidia has been caught cheating so many times with new drivers..
LOL, we'll see...
