OK, so now I have installed the damn OS, and have figured out that when I have the SATA drive hooked up, it will not boot to the RAID array, even though in the BIOS I told it to do so. Is there something else that I need to know about SATA? I know that they're jumperless, so why does it take precedence on boot?

Dude, I did, and I have installed the OS on the RAID and booted up successfully without the SATA drive attached. Problem is, when I plug the SATA drive back in, it won't boot to the RAID, just hang there. It's acting as if the RAID doesn't exist and the and the SATA drive is the only drive in a new system.

Did, and I should also mention that when the SATA drive is hooked up, Windows setup did not detect any drives on the computer.

You need to load SATA drivers by pressing F6. Otherwise Windows setup doesn't include SATA drivers.

Change boot order in BIOS, disable bootrom for SATA, etc.... I'm not a complete moron dude.

You asked me if I have changed BIOS settings... which is the first thing that I said in the very first post.
 
You need the bootrom for SATA enabled, otherwise the system won't boot from the chip. Second, the reason Windows setup doesn't see the drives is because you need to install the drivers.

Yikes. This thread is making me scared to go SATA.... Is it that much more complicated than IDE?
 
I read, I didn't see the answer to this question:

What mobo are you using? If the SATA controller is integrated on your mobo, did you make sure to enable to the BootROM if there is one in your BIOS?
 
What is your RAID array running off of? PATA? SCSI? or is it a SATA RAID? How many HDs are you using and how are they currently set up?
