So let me get this straight...

I put music onto my ipod from my powerbook, then I want to put some music on from my laptop, and I have to format my ipod before itunes will allow me to put music on from my laptop?

Where's the f*cking logic in that? :|

You can blame that lovely feature on Windows, which doesn't play nice with the Mac formatting. So if you format the iPod for Windows and then try and add stuff from your Powerbook, everything should be golden. You can go one way, but not the other.

However, if you're just talking about automatically updating things, no, you can't do that with two different computers. But you CAN just manually add songs from as many computers as you wish.

Most people use Windows. Lets makes something that doesn't work with Windows. Smart move Apple. They know the Apple fans will blame Microsoft.
