So a hard drive in my RAID array died. No big deal. Backed up the info, took the array down, pulled out the bad hd. Found out the shipping requirements for Hitachi, so I had to order a $20 box to ship it in. Fair enough though.

Somehow, the damn thing got sent to Dremel instead of Hitachi. UPS has it as delivered, Dremel says they never received it, and they don't know the person that signed for it.

Ugh, this sucks. When I thought I lost the drive in the array, I didn't think it was to be quite so literal. Guess I have to get two more drives instead of one now.

The day gets worse all of a sudden. I get a thick envelope with the official Navy letterhead. I don't know the legalese very well, but it seems the Navy is suing <sp> me in regards to the auto accident I was in. WTF? Oiy. Guess I get to go visit the lawyers on base after the hurricane hits.... Son of a ...

As for how it happens, I haven't the slightest. But of course I had it insured. I just can't believe it happened. And I would rather not go through the motions of having to get a refund on a lost drive. I'm betting that is going to a PITA.

a) the point of a RAID array is you don't take it down
b)

Yes, I know that. But that is hardly the point. I didn't feel like operating it in critical condition while the hard drive was being replaced, nor did I feel like migrating it to a 750gb RAID 5 array, instead of the 1TB RAID 5 array that it is. So I just took the array down, and I'll rebuild and move stuff back when I get the drive again.
