OMGWTFBBQ Acronyms/Abbreviations?

In today's fast track world of LOLs, OMGs, and BRBs, what do these classify as? Are they an acronym or an abbreviation? I looked on dictionary.com already so trolls can shove that up their smelly arse. both have same definition.

Acronyms are abbreviations that can be spoken like a word, such as 'AIDS'.

An acronym is a special type of an abbreviation. All acronyms are abbreviations. Not all abbreviations are acronyms. All cats are mammals. Not all mammals are cats.

So just use "abbreviation" and you are always correct.

but is barbeque a "compound term"? what is a "compound term"? any english majors?
