So...i thought i noticed a weird clanking noise in my 2009 camry a couple weeks ago, and today I changed the oil which gave me a reason to lift up the hood (obviously).

There's some kind of noise that I can't see but i can sure as hell hear. It sounds like something is turning over and over under the metal cover of the engine. Like something keeps slightly hitting the metal/some kind of metal and making a clunking sound over and over.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Update: my mom got her tires changed today and their mechanic listened to it and said it was probably the water pump since that's how it sounds when something is wrong with it.

whatever you do, do NOT try to drive it in a condition like that. Get it checked out by someone immediately. Things like that can go from a relatively cheap fix to a trashed motor in seconds.

I must agree. Take off the decorative cover and have a look for any obvious issue. If you can not see what it is, then call a flatbed to tow it to the mechanic you want to use. Driving it like that, as mentioned, could turn an easy (cheap) fix into a very costly one.

All the time. It's been like this for a while. It's actually my moms car. Also makes me nervous lol. I'll tell her what you guys said.

(sorry for the short responses, typing on the damn iPhone)
