Ok prior to all this my computer was on for Id say a good 18 hours straight, in the morning when I woke up, I worked on some stuff for school, then printed this document out in powerpoint, i was running late, so as soon as it stopped printing, i clicked shutdown in Windows XP, hopwever it did not go as fast as I would have liked, so I just hit the power switch. I dont think it matters how I turned it off, but when I turned it on just now when I got home, I get a weird problem. First scan disk came up and I thought it was normal, it went fine, and I had no problems at all, then it would go the little bar thing going across the screen with the Windows XP logo, and the bar moving on the bottom. Normal up to here, then normally it would sort of refresh and ud hear a sound, and see the mouse cursor, and then ud get the blue screen of XP, and loading personal settings, etc. I did not get this. All I got was the mouse pointer and a black background. Nothing was going on. What did I do? After about 5-10 seconds at that black screen, the cpu will just restart and its an infinite loop i guess. I changed my bios back to that of a previous time to try to clear it up, but now all it does it just remain on that black screen until I manually turn it off or try again. What should I do. I have an XP boot disc. I can probably select that Repair command right? That will clear it up right? ANyone? THanks.

Ok, an update now. I recently turned it off after it just blacked out, and I got to the scan disk after playing some bios settings, now I actually get a XP message. It says this, it has the logon window showing, and says the following....
The system cannot log you on due to the following errors:

HOW CAN I GET AROUND THIS. My CPU has never ever done this to me, I just changed some BIOS things around. Is there anyway of going back to the settings I used to have? Since I sort of just selected that option 🙁. Also, what are some major default items that the BIOS needs to get this working. You know what I mean. Like what should I make sure is enabled, disabled, etc. I have a FIC SD11 MOBO with a Slot A Athlon 700 mhz, with 384 mb of pc-100 ram, 3 dimms, and 3 physical harddrives, 1 of them on a Promise Ultra ATA/100 card, and 2 cd-roms. Thanks.

Just format and reinstall. It may be easier than trying to figure out whats going on. And remember, shutting down improperly is an increadibly moronic act that I thought most halfway intelligent people woud know not to do 🙂

I have way too much on there just to format, about 3 years of random stuff Ill never part with. The answer to that is NO, Id never format it. Even if it was Windows XP being the prob, I could always either Repair which I dont want to do, or do a clean install of JUST that, meaning it would remove the old XP sort of, and reinstall it again, so Id basically have all new settings and what not. I dont want to do either of these, can anyone help me with those new bios settings. Thanks.

Backups are a good thing. 😉

What did you change in the BIOS?

<< Well I chose to load fail safe thing, anyways, if I want to update the bios, here is a link with all of them, http://www.fic.com.tw/techsupport/drivers/searchbios2.asp?selectedmodelname=SD11
my question is....do i need to download al of those for each seperate thing, or wil the most recent one have all of those updates in it? Thanks. Im thinking of trying this, as well as the repair command in XP.

You should just need the latest one because I believe it totally overwrites the previous version.

Yet another good reason why backing up is important....

you have 3 harddrives, what is the problem? I hope that your using one for backup or atleast have your OS on a seperate partition! if not just install an os to one off those damn drives and retrive your info!
