Lick your chops, it's Rib-Fest

Canada's largest Rib-Fest is back with 11 restaurants this year serving up ribs and other goodies for a wet and worthy cause.
An aquaplex set for construction next door to the Boys' and Girls' Club of London needs to raise $4.5 million during the next five years.
"One rib at a time," said Sharon Durston, special events co-ordinator for the club, which runs the fest.
The Kelly Jarmain and Family Aquaplex will be bigger than the existing boys' and girls' club pool and feature lots of surrounding green space.
Construction is to begin next March. However, it won't come cheap, so the Rib-Fest will be turning up the sizzle to make those payments, Durston said.
With that in mind, the festival will begin Thursday night (July 29) with four local bands playing at Centennial Hall.
They include the RBC/DC, a local stockbrokers' tribute to AC/DC, and Duty Calls, made up of police officers.
Admission is $10, Durston said, and it's hoped the money will help the aquaplex project.
Restaurants taking part this year from all over North America include: Boss Hog, Crabby's BBQ Shack, Crazy Canucks Smokers, Fat Albert's Barn and BBQ Pit, Fire Island, Honeyhuckers Hawg House, Jack the Ribber, Kentucky Smokehouse, Riptides Roadhouse, Tony Roma's and Turtle Jack's Grill House.
In addition, Durston said, a media cook-off will be held Saturday at the Wolfe Street stage at 1 p.m. Twelve local celebrity judges will decide who wins the prize for best ribs, this year.
Winners will be announced Monday (Aug. 2) at 4 p.m.
Durston said karaoke will be better than ever this year with a professional group running the act Friday through Sunday.
Organizers expect 100,000 visitors over the five-day festival, which begins Thursday.
"Come out and be in the pink and have a rib-tickling good time," Durston said.

RIB BITS
* London Rib-Fest is the largest rib-fest in Canada and second-largest in North America, attracting a five-day crowd of more than 100,000 people.
* Each year visitors to the event eat about 13,500 kilograms of baby pork back ribs.
* 0.6 hectares of corn are consumed yearly -- nearly 5,000 cobs.
* 150 kegs of beer are quaffed each year.
* More than 500 volunteers give 3,500 hours of their time over the five-day festival.
The smell coming from the park is amazing!!! Making me so hungry.
This is a great reason for just visiting London, Ontario.
