dude there was already a black girl on friends!!

it was the girl that joey and ross dated at the same time....

man!!! 😀

There was I think one black guy on before that....season 4 - the "Morninnnnnnnnng's here! The morning is here!" guy. No asians to report on Friends as of yet (with a speaking role anyway)
What? Ross dated an Asian (Julie) for quite a while back in the pre-Rachel days.

$hit you're right. Ok no HOT asians yet 😉

lol yea🙂 wtf was with that i dunno😛

That's what I meant. Every black character on friends has either had a minor, limited speaking role, or are seen VERY RARELY in the background at parties and meetings and stuff
The reverse could fairly be said for any number of black sitcoms.

Um...I'm not sure what the fuss is about? I'm not even American and even I've noticed that black shows hardly ever have white or asian people in important roles. And that's worse because blacks are a minority so it's not that believable.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

i remember a promo snl did when david schwimmer was hosting, it had him with tim meadows...

schwimmer: "watch snl this weekend and see me do something i've never done before!"
meadows: "talk to a black person?"
schwimmer: "ouch."

The Bernie Mac Show does very well. The rest of the all black shows are on either UPN or WB and they are horrible quality.

I don't think it's a problem with the public not watching black shows, but that there are many black shows that appeal to people. I would be surprised if there were a lot of black people who actually watched The Hughleys each week. 😛

LMAO! 😀 It's a running joke in the entertainment business. SNL jokes about it, Leno jokes about it, comedians joke about it.

You're comparing UPN shows that get 3 - 4 million viewers to a show like Friends that gets around 19 - 25 million?

Well, Gabrielle Union was on there two years ago (Ross and Joey both dated her). There have been several other black characters. It is true that almost every main and recurring character is white.

I think that episode aired shortly after some controversy that Friends had no black actors. It was one of the worst episodes - the way Joey and Ross hit on her was so contrived. But seriously, I don't think there's any rule that says white people in NYC can't have white friends. Also, the series is about to end and it's way too late to introduce non-white actors without making it seem contrived. Having lived in the U.S for over 5 years now, I am not at all surprised that attractive, white people in their late 20s and early thirties don't date non-whites. I'm from India (where you have 14 national languages and 3000+ dialects spread over 29 States and 6 Union Territories) and you predominantly see only people of the same background mingle with each other. How many black actors on Friends would make it normal? How many of the main characters would have to be black to make it "truly" represent NYC anyways? Tell me if I am mistaken, but is the U.S integrated to the extent that 6 all-white friends in NYC is a serious aberration? 😕

Because it's true and you know it. I don't see how viewing numbers are relevant either. Does anyone remember that show with Will Smith in it I forget the name now...Fresh Prince or something? That was set in a wealthy area, and yet everyone in the show was black. Even the extras in the background. I also think that was a popular show. So sorry, but it goes both ways.

I have also noticed it in some modern black sitcoms, but i dont know the names of them. I don't really like any sitcoms. Including Friends which I hate even more than most. They come across as a bunch of elitist tofu eating hippies 😛
