I guess the wildcard rule didn't affect the 1997 (Marlins), 2002 (Angels 🙁), 2003 (Marlins), 2004 (Red Sox) Champions who were all wildcard winners.

Exactly, The wildcard rule is a joke whereby teams who could not finish first in a 5 team division somehow claim the name "world champion" by having a hot month.
