actually it's a good question. but in my opinion, it isn't printers that saves trees but Desktop Publishing software that saves trees. with my Xerox Phaser Printer and MS Publisher i can put out brochures and business cards as good as ANY of the old printers. professional looking stuff that i can do in small volumes, print 100 business cards if i want, vs having to buy a pack of 500 to 1000 business cards at a time.

very usefull especially if you change address, phone number etc a couple of times.

if i want to publish a document/instructions here and i send it through the "tech writing" group, a one sentance document takes 4 pages

a cover sheet , a table of contents, the page with the sentance and the last page is a feedback form to complain about the document

Actually, it does:

More printers > more paper being used > more paper produced > more trees consumed > more trees re-planted.

Most if not all paper plants have like n 8:1 ratio. For every tree they cut, they plant 8 more. (So I've been told.)

I think it's just something they tell you to keep you happy, sort of like telling kids there's santa.
