Not i.

I barely stress my dual core most of the time, & i suspect the benefit in games (including newer titles like UT3/Crysis), is going to be very minimal for the next while.

Also, my current E6600 is actually a really nice one...just need cooling better than air, & i could be running her 3.6+ GHz 24/7.

Honestly, I probably won't go for one for a little while even after the price drop, but that's just personal preference. I got my 3700+ not that long ago and I really can't conscience spending another $270 on a CPU for a while.

I probably will eventually purchase a quad-core, but only once they get down under $150 or so--and then only because they'll be like dual-cores are today: not everyone needs one but they're too cheap not to go ahead and get.

I hope that AMD comes back with some better competition by the time I'm ready to buy--though this price war is really good for folks wanting to buy now.

Well... is there a market for a lapped mirror finish 6400 on AT? I really want to sell mine after i buy a quad.

Yeah really lame......

I'm not going Quad until they are 45nm to deal with the heat issues on these things.

Why buy one?
Think of it this way:
If you didn't buy a CPU as soon as it becames available, the manufacturer would think that there is no interest. Then to sell them they would lower the price even further.
I don't know about you, but I work hard for my money.

I was thinking about it for my next build but now since they announced the September price cuts I may just go with a E4300 and wait till September when the Q6600 will even be cheaper. Quadcores arent a neccesity yet as far as games go.

we're still not sure if the Q-line is going to get a price drop in Sept

I'll be getting one for sure.

I now love myself for not "settling" for a C2D.

I agree. I'm going to wait a while.

Bastard :)

I thought I was going to be able to complete my build early. I'm eagerly awaiting 7/22. The q6600 will be a nice step up from my athlon64 3000+, don't you think? :p

I've thought about the same thing, only getting a E4300 and waiting for penryn.

Only thing is, those 45nm quads might be pretty expensive when they're released. So I've decided to just go with the q6600 in july. :)

Same here, only I have a 3200+ lol. It may be a while before most games take advantage of 4 cores, but photoshop is going to love the q6600. :D

I'll always have fond memories of my athlon64, great chip in it's day. Socket 939 ftw!!11oneone. Still pissed AMD dropped it and went with the lackluster AM2 line.

I think I'll upgrade to quad next year some time, unless any 8 core CPU's are out by then.... I'm currently on single core and happy with it, but the temptation of a cheap quad might make me upgrade, especially as by then, there may be games out that will use quad like Alan Wake and Crysis. I intend to skip dualcore!

My main rig still has one, nice chip in it's day, still ok for everyday tasks. But I got an A64 4000+, and now a C2D E4400. I'm debating on whether to keep that for another 3 years, or to invest richly in a quad-core. Realistically, I doubt software will even be able to take true advantage of a quad yet, unless you like to DVDShrink four movies at once.

Might be better off waiting for Penryn quad-core actually though. Better thermals, and SSE4.

I'm switching camps this weekend. I'll be moving from a s939 X2 3800+ to a P D 805. The 805 is temporary until the cuts in July. I hope the 805 will be a wash in cost and be zero in the end and the savings will be had in July on a new Intel chip. I've been in the AMD camp for the past 9 years. Feels weird changing.

My system is going through a complete overhaul in August (and it was built in January). I figure 8 months is long enough. I'm bored with my E6400. I've squeezed every last drop out of this system.
I'm getting a whole new watercooling set up so I might as well augment it with a nice shiny new Q6600. I often max out both cores so I figure I might as well go quad.

what about the G0 stepping on the Q6600? I'd rather wait a few weeks for all the old ones to filter out.

It does't make sense for most c2d owners to step up to a Q6600. However, when you are still running amd like many of us and can upgrade to the Q6600, it is much more tempting.
