I did the same thing @ 15 years ago. There's probably a warrant out for your arrest.
Get down there at 8 or 9 o'clock and be honest with 'um.
My fines didn't increase, but there was a class of 6th graders in there on a field trip and the judge definately made a show out of it.
I'm talkin' Screaming and Yelling.

I think eli has had prior problems with the police, wasn't there some drug seizure/charge?
WTF?

Uh, no. My record is clean. This is traffic citation court.

Edit: No, no, no, people. This wasn't a criminal court issue, it's just stupid traffic fines. There is no warrant out for my arrest, LOL.

The agreement I had with the officer was that if I took the class, he would drop the 80 in a 55, which was a 400something dollar ticket. I'd plead guilty to Careless Driving, which was only like 240$.

But, based on my previous hearing.. the judge just finds you guilty if you're a no-show.

This sucks too. The officer must think I'm an idiot. I was getting kinda friendly with him after talking in court, and then again at the class. He's seems to be a pretty cool guy.

I asked him how he knew I was going 80, he said that he didn't.. he just guessed.

Gotta love it. ;) lol

If the officer saw you in this class and he remebers you were there and during the course of the original infraction you were poilte. I see no problems if you call him or stop by by the police station and contact the court. Most police officers are not into being pricks and making peoples lives rotten. Just contact the appropriate people and make amends quickly. Good luck and let us know.
How the hell would I contact the officer? lol.. I don't even know if that would be appropriate. I'm pretty sure it's out of his hands at this point anyway.

God damnit. I don't know why I had it in my head that it was on the 8th.. That's what I've thought for the last like 2 months... How bizarre.

But I was so happy that the officer pulled me aside and made a deal, I wasn't looking forward to paying such hefty fines. Plus I had to pay 40$ for the driving class...

Geesh.

Getting ready to call the court clerk. At the least I can setup a payment plan I guess. :brokenheart:

I got a fixit ticket once for not having my insurance/registration papers with me once. It was during school and right before I left for the winter break. Went on winter break, forgot about ticket and missed my court date.

I got a letter in the mail letter saying that I have to show up to court and pay these additional fees.

I got to court, told the judge straight up that I was a dumbass and just forgot about it. She levied the standard fine for missing the court date (like $300), told me to pay the clerk and go home.

Contact the court...tell them that you screwed up, and had the wrong date. Reschedule. Yes, there MAY be a bench warrant for failure to appear, in many places, that's automatic. The longer you wait, the worse it will seem...

Well, just got off the phone.

I was found guilty, and have to pay the fines in full. What a waste of money. The officer was so nice to me too... I had a chance, and I blew it because of a stupid, honest mistake. :(

Expensive lesson. Check and doublecheck dates. I'm usually so good with stuff like that.

Since you missed the Court date an Arrest Warrant is automatically issued.

You are now considered a "fugitive" of the law.

You will now incur a boatload of extra expenses such as being arrested, read your rights, booked, finger printed, mug shot, bail, indictment and further Court appearanceas with associated lawyer and court costs.

Enjoy and thank you for your contribution to the corrupt system.
Sucks to live in your state, that's certainly not how they deal with simple traffic law violations in Oregon.

I think the point of this entire exercise has completely evaded you.
The point was NOT that you check and double check dates, the point was that the judicial system would like you to slow down when you are driving and obey traffic laws before you kill someone's kid.
I'd like you to slow down before you run over my kids, too.
If that's not too much to ask.

If that is really what you think then you are really naive to what is going on.

Speeding tickets are so common not for safety, but because the judicial system has their definition so defined that they are very difficult to fight compared to other tickets.

There are many much more difficult offenses that are all but ignored by leo.. people running red lights (as they changed from yellow-red)... people failing to yield when turning right on red, etc etc

That sucks, but I'd be more worried about your insurance with 80 in a 55. Lots of points there, esp with Careless Driving. Invest in AstroGlide stock if possible...

So, what you're saying is that the judicial system can make speeding tickets stick, so they use that to their best advantage ignoring other offenses that aren't likely to hold up in court, to effectively slow people down?
I agree.
Sounds like common sense to me.
Spend the small amount of time availble to yield maximum results.

Ughh... sorry to hear about that, Eli. :(

IIRC, careless driving and 20-over are both 2 points on your license, so this probably won't change the damage to your insurance, but yeah the extra $200 sucks nonetheless...

sucks for j00, next time learn to read the signs on the side of the road, then you won't have to check the dates. (i made the same mistake, 80 in a 55, construction zone too. my ticket was $125) :p
