hey guys. give me a pat on my back, because today was the first time i installed a hard drive. yes, my previous fears of breaking a computer have finally been alleviated. i bought a maxtor 160gb hard drive for 98 bucks at a local hardware store. i know its not the greatest price, but my darn hard drive unexpectely konked out on me.

now i need to install os and perform diagnostics on this drive. never done this before so i have a few questions for you guys. its a brand new drive but should i perform some diagonstics to make sure the drive is good? What program can check for me? Secondly, should i perform a quick format or complete format? and how long does a complete format take? keep in mind its 160gb.

thanks.

Congrats........ good feeling yes?

Quick format is fine.

Make a seperate partition for Windows, quicker to defrag a 15GB partition than the complete HDD.

Have fun.
