OMG! My neighbor just paid me for watching his cat!

I watched my neighbor's cat for two weeks - I just went next door twice a day and played with her, and fed her and changed her water and litter.

He paid me $60! I feel so bad, like I can't take it, but it'd be such an insult to give his money back. 🙂

I'll definitely write him a thank you note; he's only a high school teacher, it's not like he's super rich.

Oh well, that $60 will definitely go far.

😀

I agree! You did a job and you should be paid. $60.00 to care for his pet for two weeks is a good deal for him. It might not have been hard work, but it was certainly time consuming and a lot of responsibility.

Good for you!
🙂 🙂 🙂

Heh, he uses really high-quality litter, so the scooping is not a problem.

Anyway, I just think it was super generous of him. He's a really nice guy and he seems like he'd be cool to hang out with, but he's at least 20 years older than me, so it'd be a little weird. Still though, he's a great neighbor to have.

Agreed. My wife does home pet visits and gets more in the range of $30 per day. We just checked with a vet that boards cats and we'll be paying $37 a day for our cat in December - because he's a diabetic and needs insulin shots 2x a day.

Plus, taking care of a pet in a home is usally the best thing for the pet. Sending them off to a cage can lead to some owner resentment on the part of the pet.

So you were going to do it for free and he surprised you?
Well, I expected something nominal (which I would have been totally grateful for), like a gift card or something. Certainly not $60, but I'm definitely happy about it! 🙂

Who has someone watch their cats?

My parents have 3 cats and go away for a week and just have a auto feeder and a auto clean litter box.
Snickers gets a little ticked he does not get his daily treat, but that is about all.

Cats (like other animals) get really lonely when they're shut in a house all day with no other contact. With 3 cats, I can see how it might work for a week, but for someone with just one cat, it's necessary to have human contact a couple times a day.

You got screwed. You should have gotten atleast $50 a week.
