OMG my mother-in-law just tried recharging some non-rechargeable batteries!

I was sitting down using my laptop when I heard a sizzling and popping sound behind me. I thought my laptop adapter was on fire or something. Then I looked and saw my battery charger plugged in with some strange batteries inside. I quickly unplugged it and saw the batteries where corroding and leaking acid. When I asked her about it, she just laughed and said sorry :frown:.

She could have burnt our house down.

ah, the old people are like babies all over again, you must keep all things electrical and chemical away from them at all times...

If you value your marriage, DO NOT come between your wife and your MIL. She'll just have to be supervised like one of the kids from now on. Not much you can really do about it. If she thought that was funny, she's going to need a lot of supervision. Gawd, imagine how bad it's going to be when she's old! :Q

Sounds like you'll have to senior citizen proof your house now. Seriously.

Out of line? Maybe he could have added something constructive or kept his mouth shut rather than being a smart ass. So no, I don't think I was out of line.

I've never had a problem with this.
I've only done it with the Energizer E2 batteries, but they recharged and worked just fine... eventually they wouldn't hold a charge any longer, but never exploded.

This is exactly why women shouldn't be allowed around electrical devices. Ever. Unless it's a kitchen appliance, but they are already safety-checked for women.

They were leaking pretty badly. They were cheap Kirkland (Costco) batteries. They were also sizzling and popping like bacon, I have no idea how long they were plugged in. Either way, with 2 babies in the house, I wouldn't want leaking, popping batteries anywhere near them.
