I got my new opteron 170 yesterday. I got my liquid cooling today. I had the hardest time in the world prying off the OEM heatsink/fan. It actually pulled the cpu out of the socket. Then Im sitting there trying to pull off that damn cpu from the heatsink and its not budging. Finally after trying really hard to be careful the cpu went flying into my case. I was like ow ******, but luckily it still works just fine. It got me thinking though how the hell am I supposed to carefully take off this waterblock? The factory heatsink I left alone as far as adding thermal compound because it was already on there. My new waterblock I tried to not put too much on (AS5). I hope i never have to deal with that again.

You could of avoided all of this. Next time you take off the stock heatsink, run prime for 5 minutes or so to heat up the heatsink. Turn off your computer and the heatsink will still be hot (and the "thermal glue" as you put it will still be in a melted state and your heatsink will come right off.)

As for your waterblock. You used AS5 it should just pop right off. Usualy you can just turn the heatsink / waterblock side to side to get it off though.

Hope this helps
