Step 1 Clean the outside of the monitor with Simple Green, 409, or a similar cleaner.
Step 2 Spray a cloth with glass cleaner and wipe the screen. If you attempt to clean an LCD screen, be careful not to press too hard on the screen. Be sure to use a clean, soft cloth.

Aren't you NOT supposed to spray with glass cleaner because it ruins the anti glare coating!!!!!

Yes but they don't say what kind of glass cleaner. They do have anti glare coating safe cleaners. You don't want one with ammonia in it.

Just dont use a wet cloth.... damp cloth is all you need. Ive seen people soak a rag and do it and the water runs down the screen into the interior of the monitor and thats bad bad.

I use a microfiber towlette and lens cleaner from Sunglass Hut. If its safe enough for my polarized glass Revos and plastic/tortoise shell EAs, its safe enough for my LCD and monitors.

Well, I tried to clean my 19 inch monitor a while back with some sort of cheap lens cleaner and a lens cloth, and I'm afraid I did a little bit of damage to the anti glare coating. From then on I've always cleaned monitors only with a slightly damp lens cloth, just to be safe.

My secret is 2 generous pulls from the Charmin (extra soft stuff), one swatch gets dampened with water for washing the screenand the other is used to buff it out a nice shine.

Simple Green is NOT glass cleaner! Refer to MSDS for more information.

-DAK-

p.s. If people kept their grubby little digits OFF the surface and turned their face when they sneeze the screens would stay clean forever! I haven't had to clean mine for 18 months and don't see the need.

Typical situation in my room ...

M4H: Where did you say that was again?
Roommate: Right over there dude (moves to point with finger on monitor)
M4H (instantly): If that finger touches my screen, I'm breaking it off.
Roomate (withdrawing finger): Uhh ... 'bout three inches up and to the right of your cursor.
M4H: Thank you (clicks)

Most of the time I use a fairly clear plastic coating over my monitor so then I can just wipe that off, everything on the screen is a little cloudy but you get used to it. When it gets really dirty I just toss it in the dishwasher with my keyboard, hey their both part of a computer right...?

Actually just an antistatic rag for me, usually no cleaners involved.

Awesome. That's going to be me the next time someone tries to touch any of my screens. After my cousin touched my laptop's LCD screen a few times and I lived w/ the smudges for weeks, I swore to never let it happen again.

WhoA!! I emailed them about that one to fix that mess up. Don't want anyone loosing their coatings over some idiot saying to clean their monitor incorrectly.

I think you're supposed to use a non "antistatic" cleaner. Your monitor manual will say what to use as a cleaner.
