Ok, finally got broadband via comcast (1.8mb down/ 256k up test at dslreports.com) and I'm waiting on my wireless router to arrive. Just a little excited here 🙂

Ok, I gotta have a question or this would be a wasted thead. The installer set up the modem to my laptop via a Netgear nic. So unitl I get my router, is it possible to just move my nic to another laptop and the other laptop could use the broadband?

Of course I'll try it to see if I'm able to do it but just want to see if its possible.

*drooool*... broadband 😀

Just plug the ethernet cable to any network card, you will be connnected.
With DHCP you don't need to set anything.

thanks for confirming that. I'm typing from a different laptop 🙂
I'm not sure if your cable company locks you in to one MAC address (thus, one network card). If that is the case, you can get on the internet form different laptops by swapping your network card, but you might have trouble if you plug your cable modem into a different network card. If that's the case, then when you get your router, you'll have to clone the MAC address of your Netgear network card onto the WAN port of the router for it to work properly.

If you need to do that, run netstat-r from a command prompt
The first box is a routing table, the second line of the routing table will have the mac addy of your network adapter.
