OMG i'm CCNP now

I've no official certifications and I am a sysadmin/lan admin at a federal research facility. I hope you didn't get the certs to get a job...

BSCI - hard, BRCAN - less harder than BSCI, BCMSN- average, Support - hard

took me about 3 months (ive took cisco academy training)

i agree w/ u on the value of certfications(some people to take braindumps just to pass the test).... however ive spent 2 years in cisco academy, had many weekends in labs doing routers and switches... i think my certfication is well earned...

Why not? They are a good way to be "above" other applicants.
Agreed. Certs matter most when two (or more) candidates apply for the same job. The certs can put you over the top.

Definitely. If you did the labs and the coursework then you are head and shoulders above the paper cert holders. For the record, I'm taking cert classes at ODU. I'm prepared for A+ (I was exempted from this class (CLEP?)), Net+, Win2K Pro and Server MCPs, and Win2K Network Infrastructure Admin. I'll probably only get the CompTIA certs though.

Yeah, congrats. You worked for your credentials.
Way to go. Nevermind the Naysayers, my Girlfriend got her job with the IT Dept of a Medical Facility due to her Certs!

In this economy, Certs are gold. I lost a job opportunity, just because I didn't have any MS certs to my name.

heres my situation now... seems like nowadays, employeers want certs and years of real work experience, im fresh out of college, no real work experience yet... but they require work experience, how am I supposed to get job experience if i dont have a job???

good grief!

if you haven't already try a telco or an isp. the pay may not be the greatest but you'll get your foot in the door and it will count as "experience"

Now I need to find a damn terrorist...

HeHeHe. I qualified "expert" on the following weapons when I was in the Air Force: M-16, M-60 machine gun, M-203 grenade launcher and 9MM. However, since leaving the military 12 years ago, I haven't touched a gun since then. 😉

This is true...however, the best way, all other things being equal, is to have a connection to the people who are looking at your application.
