So, today I go into the INS office to take my citizenship test. Dude calls my name, and I follow him into his office. He opens my file, looks over my forms, asks for my D.L., residency card and letter. He then goes over the forms (which I filled out 6 months ago) and verifies all my responses. Then he looks at my birth certificate. He then asks me why I haven't filled in my middle name anywhere, since I am liable to do so in order to be granted citizenship. I tell him that I have no middle name. He pulls out my birth certificate (which I have never seen before BTW and SHOWS ME THAT I DO HAVE A MIDDLE NAME!!!

:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q

Unconvinced, I ask to be excused momentarily and I go back to the waiting room to fetch my father (who is also waiting on his interview) so that he can verify the information. His response? "oh yea! I forgot about that!"

I don't know HOW MANY TIMES between the ages of 6 and 13 I've asked my parents why I don't have a middle name, and they've always told me its because its not in our culture. This is while I'm being brought up in CATHOLIC school and everyone has AT LEAST ONE middle name. :| Turns out they were just covering it up to protect me or something but "it doesn't matter now" (???)

uh...interesting...?

Dude, I've never heard it before in my life!! But its better than Percival or Wigglesworth or something like that!

BTW the test was easy:

Who is the president?

Who is the vice president? (hardest question...is it a trick q?)

How many senators?

Capital of N.C.?

What is the Bill of Rights? (got it wrong!)

Can the constitution be changed? How?

Who signs a bill into law?

Then I had to read a sentence and write a sentence for English req's.

You thought the Vice president question was tougher than the capital of N.C.?

That is the test ( or some of it for natualization? ) Hell, 1/2 of the high school grads would fail that.

I took my middle name and had my first name legally dropped in fourth grade. Let's just say It's gone with the wind now. :)

For the first I would've said a list of unalienable rights that were created because the people were afraid of the government, but now that I think of it, all it is is the first ten ammendments.

The constitution can only be changed by the Supreme Court right?

The president signs a bill into law right, but can't Congress stop it still?

Capital of N.C. is Raleigh right?

Before I make myself look like an idiot, the consitution can only be amended as far as I can remember. In that case, you need approval of both the states and congress; 75% of the states, 75% of the members of the house, and 75% of the members of the senate.

I don't have one either. My dad was born in Colombia and my mom was born in Mexico. We are Catholic.
