Ok i think i decided on what type of Dog i want!!!

Shiba Inu

Been looking for a little while and this type of dog seems to fit what im looking for....

1) Small/Medium (Under 30lbs)
2) Cute (but not Ugly Cute)
3) Well Tempered
4) Affectionate
5) Energetic, but dosent need acres to play in

The only thing im not sure about is how well they are for people with alergies (i.e. my girlfriend)

Anyone have this breed?

chick dogs.

;)

Seriously...if I were to get a dog...I'd look into that breed (prefer Beagles or Cocker Spaniels)...or if I had land...a Lab.

My friend has one of those. Beautiful dogs and I like the size (not too big, but not too small.) They DO shed quite a bit and I've heard they're not the greatest with kids, although his does pretty well from what little I can tell.

Uhh yo, this isn't a chick dog. It's actually a Japanese hunting dog, not a lapdog.
My friend has one, and I have to say that she(the dog) is beautiful. That picture you put Aphex doesn't do justice to the beauty of this dog.

To answer your question Aphex, I don't think my allergies are that bad around the dog, my allergies tend to flare up more around the cat I believe.

Get one of these! Have you found a breeder yet?

Yah, the only problem was that the dog cost a fair amount when my friend bought her. I believe 600. :(
However, the dogs now 2 human years old and just a little bundle of energy and muscle. Really smart dog, she goes about does her own thing sort of like a cat. But friendly and always willing to play.

I used to have an Akita Inu before I moved closer to the city. Wonderful dog, the attitudes are much the same between the Shiba and the Akita IIRC, though the Akita is much more likely to be aggressive towards other dogs. I was actually thinking about getting a Shiba, now that I have a smaller yard, but I haven't been able to find any breeders near me.

My friend has one of those :D

Very Cute :D

Make sure you check out the legs.

My freind had to get his dog surgery to fix a dislocated knee.

Cost him $1800 Cdn to fix.

Cheers,

i happen to own one which i gave to my parents. female shiba inu ~3 yrs old. she is quite a handful. They are chick-magnet dogs too. However.... I can't stress how much these dogs are both cunning and stubborn.

1) Small/Medium (Under 30lbs)

my dog is 20 lbs, she's a big bitch (personality too). a good thing about this dog is that i can free feed it and she stops eating herself when she's had enough.

2) Cute (but not Ugly Cute)

definitely. i had a girl jump out of her car and ask for my email because she wanted to babysit the dog.

3) Well Tempered

for the most part.

4) Affectionate

not really but this probably depends on the dog.

5) Energetic, but dosent need acres to play in

that might be true but it depends on the dog. I think they'll be happier having a fenced in backyard to play in. she periodically comes back home with dead animals - really instinctive and high prey drive.
