OMG!! I saw the license plate "PWNED" tonight in Ann Arbor!!

Please tell me that an ATer owns this plate. It's a Michigan registration, plain blue style, with just the letters "P-W-N-E-D" - it was on a newer model British Racing Green Mazda Miata, and there was a girl in the passenger seat and a guy in the driver's seat.

I was the dork in the U of M Public Safety car giving you a thumbs up as I pulled up next to you at State and South University.

Anyone!@!?!

There was a girl in the passenger seat? Sadly, that means the guy isn't a member of the forums. :D

Pwned did not originate from AT. In fact, it originated from Counter-Strike. Since all ATOT CS servers have died, a vast minority of aters play counter-strike. Out of the 500,000 cs players out there, about 50 are ATERs.

Yeah, I know that other places use "pwned" but I was hoping that it was an ATer. Hopefully I'll see him again. I was going to follow them and compliment them on the plate, but I got dispatched to a jump start. :(

No...I was pretty much kicking myself for not having a camera. It would have been SO sweet!

I guess I could bribe the cool people in dispatch to run a LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) check on the plate (name of owner, warrants, tickets, expiration), but that might border on being a psycho. :D

I'm a student employee at the UMDPS. We do vehicle unlocks, jump starts, SAFEWALK escorts and other stuff that the cops don't want to do. It's a cool job - we get to drive a Public Safety vehicle and work out of the same department as the UM police.

Basically, we do the stuff that tow truck drivers do, but for free if you're a UM affiliate.

We have something like that at MSU; except that they don't help. But man do they give tickets.

I'm supposed to write tickets, but I never got 'sworn in' as an officer. It's a nice little perk; I get to do the job, but I don't have to do the dirty work of ruining people's days.

"pwned" did not originate from counter strike - this term has been used even back during
the netquake days.

Netquake / Quakeworld > *.* still to this day

From [/quote]urbandictionary.com

A corruption of the word "Owned." This originated in an online game called Warcraft, where a map designer misspelled "owned." When the computer beat a player, it was supposed to say, so-and-so "has been owned."

Instead, it said, so-and-so "has been pwned."

It basically means "to own" or to be dominated by an opponent or situation, especially by some god-like or computer-like force.

"Man, I rock at my job, but I still got a bad evaluation. I was pwned."

OR

"That team totally pwned us."
