I'd wait until it hits the $10 bargain bin price.
Which is pretty much what I did for Duke Nukem 3D.

All the reviews point to this being a fairly mediocre game. Not terrible, but not worth spending that much money on.

$10? I'm waiting for the $2.99 sale on Steam.

It's like Daikatana all over again!

graphics are really good if you believe its 5 years ago, and it seems like a well polished game. worth $20 but no more then that... definitely not worth waiting a decade for.

And as I expected, the pro reviewers are complaining about modern issues, not the fact that it doesnt live up to 12 years of hype or the previous game.

So this truly does stink.

Exactly. If the game was not called Duke Nukem Forever and had a generic space marine instead of Duke, it would have been rated just as poorly.

I honestly think they released it so people would just shut the fuck up about the game.

I am not a hater and came to own conclusions before I read all the reviews:

Pros:
-Same great level of interactivity that Duke 3D was famous for
-Very nicely re-imagined enemies
-Awesome big boss fights reminiscent of Nintendo games.
-In the days of modern FPS, it's VERY refreshing to play in Las Vegas, attending late-show, playing slots, etc.

Cons:
-What the FUCK, LINEAR LEVELS? I truly missed box levels where you explore on your own. You are going through one LOOOOOOOONNG passage the whole game. This game plays like any other modern SP FPS.

-Fucking Halo/CoD-style regenerating HP and holding only two weapons!? You're pretty much playing Halo 1, with Duke theme.

-Vehicles suck. They are frustrating as hell and shitty controls give me headache.

Seriously, I started to play this game with zero expectations and wasn't even aware of all the bashing. I played for about 3 hours and am not if I want to continue.

I prefer linear levels over confusing designs that are easy to get lost in.

Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are linear designs, and they are great games.

On the other hand, Doom 3 level design was so bad, that I had to buy a walk-through book just to get through the levels.

HL and HL2 had REAL open areas as well as complex navigation WITHIN the 'linear' path.

The whole game of DNF's path width was no longer than 50 yards at any given time. You're basically really just playing one long tunnel. It's painfully linear and I felt 'trapped' all the time.
