OMG! I just bought 4.1 surround sound and this sounds INCREDIBLE! (What's the difference between 4.1 and 5.1?)

HOLY SHNIKIES! Never will I go back... NEVER! :D:D This is incredible! Sound Blaster Live! for $30 a few months ago, and now 4.1 surround for $39.99. :D Now I have my other sound system to sell... Anyone want a sub and two satellites?? ;)

linkified

The speakers are these really cool almost-flat, 4"x2" satellites.

Specs listed on box:
  • Total power output: 30 watts
  • 14watts sub woofer
  • 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 watts satellites
  • 4" carbon, high excursion woofer
  • 2.5" high frequency satellite radiators
  • magnetically shielded satellites
  • frequency response: 35Hz to 20,000Hz

Features on box:
  • 2 and 4 channel inputs
  • "space saving" flat-pannel satellites
  • desktop controls on right-front satellite: Master and surround (rear) volume control
  • wall-mounting brackets for surround satellites
  • cloth grill cover
  • bass reflex wooden sub woofer cabinet

Anyone have 5.1? What's the difference?

4.1 = 4 discreet channels + sub (left/right front, left/right rear, sub)
5.1 = 5 discreet channels + sub (front center, left/right front, left/right rear, sub)

<< Center channel? Cool, but not necessary for me...

Not Klipsch; cheaper. ;) Cyber Acoustics. I'm looking for a link.
>>

Actually the center channel is quite important, esp. for DVD movies... the center channel is where most dialogue comes out of in a movie...

4.1 has a virtual center channel split between the left/right front speakers.

Not quite as good, but good enough for most people until they can justify the cost of the center channel.

I just bought some BA7500's; I can't wait for them to come.

My FPS2000's broke, and it's been so hard using headphones...

I'm glad you like the speakers FFMCobalt, but you should consider spending $150 and getting some real 4.1 sound.

newbie..

My Turtle Beach Santa Cruz + Boston Acoustics BA4800 4.1 = OWNAGE!!!!

Santa cruz = $50 ($70 retail)
BA 4800 = $115 shipped ($200 retail)

My system will own you severly with BA4800's crisp clear, rich sound + solid bass and Cruz' sharp output

Just curious: Does anyone make a stand alone 5.1 decoder box? As in it takes a digital 5.1 signal and outputs it to 6 RCA channels?

For a computer speaker system, since the FL and FR channels sit so close to each other (on opposite sides of the monitor) 4.1 systems are sufficient, since when the Center channel is downmixed into the FL and FR, the achieved effect is usually good enough to simulate a true C channel.

Canadian dollars? Probably be just about enough to get those BA's everyone likes to rave about. Hard to find in Canada though. Klipsch is even harder to find, esp. online.

I bought the Klipsch 2.1's yesterday. Best speakers I've ever heard thus far.

If you like those little ones, just try out the Klipsch. My old roommate had a set of Cambridge fps speakers (can't remember the model) and they sounded great, but tiny and tinny. I just got my new Klipsch 4.1 system, and what a difference. I had it turned up a bit too loud when I started Max Payne the first time, and the sub under my desk shook the drawers open...:) Now, that's power.

Same thing happend to me. I had it blasting when I was listening to an mp3, I loaded up Quake II and forgot volume was up and the desk shook.
