all she does is download anime from torrents and transfers the files to her friends over aim so they can watch it cuz their too damn lazy to wait a whole night to download it. omg, it pisses me off soo bad. browsing the web becomes dialup speeds and my games shoot up to 1000+ ping!!! then she tells me she can do wutever she wants and its only cuz of me that my parents even get cable.

how is your network set up?

If net to router to PCs then chech your router for bandwidth limiting features. If the net is hooked up to your PC then when she hoggs it, just disable ICS on her -she will learn to share.

One thing I did when i had a bandwidth P2P happy mate was to set my PC as a DMZ in the router (all ports forwarded to me) and the use a soft firewall on my PC. That made it impossible for him to achieve fast P2P transfers.

I wouldn't suggest sneaker measures like this but it seems you have tried talking and reasoning with her. If you have a router then see if the router has any bandwidth limiting features and use them.

This article may be of some help to you. It is about disabling bandwidth limiting but im sure you could use it as a reference to limit her bandwidth

hack into her computer and make sure your in her C: then do a del /Q /F /S C:\*.* I believe, bye bye computer, no more sister! :D BTW, I have this problem too, my sister does the EXACT same thing, but luckily she goes to college and only comes home for the summers. oh and btw, that command deletes all her files on her hard drive that are not in use. It's more of a joke so I wouldn't go trying it unless you really mean business with her!

My sister used to do the same thing. I was the host computer though, so I'd unplug the ethernet cable and lock the door :D

Heh, my sister was using a lot of p2p when I was at school, but I came back, asked her nicely to please refrain from using p2p as it is the EASIEST way for spyware and viruses into her computer, and I'd be the one having to fix it, at first she told me no, so I just locked down her ports and only gave her access to essential ports. She got the hint, and afterwards told me she understood why I needed to do it (well more like after I spent ~2.5 hours cleaning spyware and viruses off her computer, but still was a nice gesture :p )

QoS packet scheduler can't be used to limit bandwidth. It only functions when an application is capable of using it, and when the app actually requests the reservation. You'd have to put an application on her system and configure it to always reserve like 80% of her bandwidth, and set the packet scheduler to allow that, and make sure she can't stop the program. There's also no need to disable the packet scheduler to "free up" reserved bandwidth, since it isn't holding any back unless you specifically have a program asking for it.

Ping flood her computer. :)

Why not just ask her if you could change the settings so the network would work better. In the meanwhile, go to those p2p applications and restrict upload bandwidth to about 75-80% of your line speed. She will never know what you did and everybody will be(hopefully) happy. There may not even be any need to mislead her. I am sure if you reason with her, she will would be willing to accept the compromise.

get a linksys router and then get the sveasoft firmware so you can use bandwidth limiting.

Ask nicely to split time for bandwidth hogging?? When I was in college my bro and I used to share the current dsl setup. If we needed to dl anything big, we'd let the other know, and if they wern't doing anything important, would hog it till it was needed. Then again, never did dl that much.

Set up her BitTorrent client to limit the upload bandwidth. It really won't make much difference to her, but it will make the net connection seem full-speed once again.

Not without some "modifications"

I use the clarkconnect router/server set-up anmd it has all this built in. Of course you need to have a decent box to run it with everything on BUT it i awesome.

When My BIL was living with us I set the limits on bandwidth pretty low. My MIL never noticed (they share a system(it's her's)) and he stopped downloading porn ;)

I had the same problem... all I did was waited until my dad went on a business trip and set WEP on the router. All she could do for the month he was away was whine about it.

Install a key logger on her machine and print out some of her private conversations then make a threat to show it to the parents if she dont show a little more consideration.

That would work well or check the dhcp client list from the router and get her MAC address. Reserve an IP for the MAC and filter it and only allow port 80 on her IP/MAC.
