Show me one. I bet you can't because it doesn't exist. Not with this media and storage capability.

Apple just makes hype about whatever they're introducing.

True. It's called marketing. Jobs is the master of it.

It's basically a good looking product with mediocre features and a higher price tag than the competition

Find me 2gig or 4gig flash player for cheaper. I don't even care if it doesn't have color screen. Heck it can even be size of a football. Find me one for cheaper.

how can that business model work???

Obviously very well as Apple's profit in last couple years have mirrored the increased iPod sales.

This is a 4GB FLASH player??? I didn't realize that---doesn't seem to say that anywhere on Apple's site. Anything over 1GB has always been hard drive based in the past.

Still, where's the FM tuner? User replaceable battery? Maybe even an FM modulator? Wifi connection? These are things that people actually want in a player, but Apple seems to keep forgetting. Well, they're not forgetting- they're counting on overcharging you for add on accessories that will make the player twice as large as it started out as.

I've been watching this product from Creative. It's a HD based player, but I can jog with my current 5GB Zen Micro just fine. It's shorter than the Nano, but thicker, so you can pick and choose there (it's a little shorter but just about as wide as a buisness card).

well no, making the battery user replaceable would certainly screw up the form of esp the nano. the tight sleek perfectly formed case and all. and well, for geeks the batteries are always replaceable. ipodbattery.com its just a bit harder.

Yes this is flash player. That's what makes it so special. That's why everyone wants one. Flash is the future of portable player market and Apple once again has taken the lead. It will be months/year before copycat products appear.

As for features you listed like fm tuner, user replaceable battery, wifi connection, etc... this is first and foremost a portable music player. There are tradeoffs for having features you want and including that in a player. Not everyone wants the features you listed. Having those features mean less battery life, size increase, price increase, etc. Aftermarket accessories market caters to people who want those features.

I had ordered the 1gig iAudio U2 flash player the day before Nano was introduced. Luckily I was able to cancel in time. U2 is the only flash player I would get instead of Nano. Likewise iAudio X5 is the only HD based player I would get instead of the iPod.

I'd snatch one of these up in a heartbeat...if only I had music to listen to :(

Yeah I'm a freak that hasn't bought a CD in several years and just listens to the radio.

at the end of the day, it's still an MP3 player.

i would have rather had Apple stick and FM tuner or add some cool new features to it.

Well Apple makes products for the sophisticated individual. They've always have. This means the buyer is rather choosy about their music as much as their taste in the hardware and company they buy it from. A radio would simply be a waste of time and space since they can't choose their music.

i can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not

"sophisticated individual", haha. from a product that touts being easy enough for an ape to use and comes in pretty pastel colors.

"buyers choosy about their music", lol. considering how many high school kids have ipods, i'm willing to wager half of them are filled with Ashlee Simpson and Britney Spears.

and, i don't buy the waste of space argument. there have been mp3 players smaller than the ipod who've had FM tuners for a long time.

that said, i think the Nano looks cool and i want to try it out in the store. however, lack of an FM tuner would hold me back from buying one.

Ok. How do you explain this then?

Everytime I go to a business convention or a meeting with some top dogs of major corporations in any industry, the businessmen almost always have a brand new higher end IBM Thinkpad (or Powerbook..NEVER any Dells), a high end Blackberry device and..guess what? An APPLE iPOD! That's right. I've never seen any of these top Harvard grads using anything other than an iPOD. It's STATUS to own Apple products and that's always for good valid reasons. If it's easy to use, you don't waste time on operating it, you enjoy what it does best. These "sophisticated people" have little to no time fiddling with accessories. If it's a pain in the ass to use, it's not even worth a penny. The price difference is just not enough to justify inconveniences as well as losing face value in using "outsider" products. I used to think otherwise but from experience, I can guarantee you that people will look at you differently. And that alone can make a product much more enjoyable to use.

tbqhwy.com
it doesnt hold nearly enough music to be usefull to me
iva alwyas thought the ipods interface was crap
itunes is also crap, however there are plenty of 3rd party pograms that will work with it
and just because its flash doesnt make it 11billionx better then a 4 gig HDD based mp3 player like all of you seem to think

I just returned my mobiBLU to wallyworld. It was a nifty little cube MP3 player, but the damn up button malfunctioned after only a week!!!
I was planning on giving it another shot, until I saw a few 4GB MP3 players from iRiver for ~$200
The ipod looks great.. but I don't fee like being like everyone else

explain this: my little cousin in high school has an iPod. every single one of her teeny bopper friends have one.

status symbol my ass. i fully admit they're wildly popular, but you just painted the iPod to be some sort of device that people will be in awe over if you have one.

losing face value in using "outsider" products.

hahahahaha, you've got issues if you're worried about losing respect from strangers because of your mp3 player.

I can guarantee you that people will look at you differently.

i see you're still in high school as well, so i'm sure you know what i'm talking about.
