I maxxed out my current setup.. I was going to get a Incase external 8 bay SCSI enclosure but that ran 181.. I can get this and use my current ATX case for another system and still save 30 bucks off the External SCSI enclosure.

Current system

1 10K SCSI Boot - 73GB
2 10K SCSI Data - 73GB Mirror
1 10K SCSI Hot Spare - 73GB For Above
4 7.2k IDE Converted to SCSI to free up IDE Bus - 180GB
1 NEC 2500A IDE DVD
1 Generic IDE DVD
1 Toshiba 1401 SCSI DVD
2 Removable Rack - Empty for trouble shooting other people PC w/o opening mine up.
1 Seagate 20GB Tape Drive

I still have another 6 18GB SCSI I can chain up.. currently using 2 SCSI controller, (1 RAID w/4 Channel) supports up to 70 drives using 5 channels.

wow talk about overkill..... I'd strongly consider selling off your drives and just getting a couple 73gb raptors and a couple 250gb sata drives. and proubly would offer better performance and proubly not cost you much money

you would get:

73gb running in RAID 1 (looks like you like redundancy) for boot/critical data
500gb RAID 0 for Multimedia/other large bits of data

would cost about 500

you should be able to get about 800-1000 for all you harddrives. so you'd actually comeout ahead and save yourself 3 drives if you don't use the 18gb or 9 if you you do.

I already own these stuff, been using it for over 1 year.. drives were all free, off retired system, and still has 4 year warranty left (5 yr for scsi). SCSI raid card cost 600 and it was also free.

I dont want to change my mobo because it's dual xeon 2.8 already.. I dont plan to upgrade for another year or so.

Even if I get the sata drive, Ill convert them to scsi bus so I can chain up 14 on 1 channel or 7 on each channel..

My mobo doesn't have sata

ok just trying to simplify your setup......I have 4 drives in my system and I just hate it due to all the heat looking to move towars 2x250gb

also if you got a dual xeon board you can get a 4 channel sata card for a 64bit PCI slow (which I'm sure you got) which would also improve performance imensly

well i already have the 4 - 180gb ide drives already.. so switching them to 2x250 isnt enough.. i would get 4x250

I kinda feel your pain, with 10 hd's (but only two optical drives) in my pc70 it's was a bit cluttered until I made a big effort to clean some of the wires, took some time but was worth it.

This should solve your needs, cubes are perfect for many-disc servers imo. Haven't seen that one before though, so cannot say how it is specifically. I'd be a bit sceptical of the quality as it's Codegen (maker of some of the most crappy home/soho tower cases) but people have said their cases intended for servers are ok.

yeah, i started importing all my video into pc.. i bought a digital camcorder.. its like the best thing.. everyone loves the dvd you can make.. weddings, etc.. no more carrying around a tape that'll die after 10 years..

Like 1 hour of video in high quality is close to 70 gigs and once you trim out the stuff and compress it, it'll fit on a dvd.. im looking forward to the dual layer dvd so i can store more stuff..

I actually built a server out of a very similar case 4 years ago.....ah memories

dual 750 PIII's
1GB registered pc133
6 9GB ultra scsi hard drives in a raid 5 array (hot swappable in the cases front tray setup I rigged)
40/80GB tape drive
dual 10/100 nics
16 way octopus for ras modems
NT4.0 with exchage.

I think we sold that beast for 35k if I remember right.
