is it like one of those cards, such as an ATI 9800 pro that you have to have a power connector connected onto it? because one time I did that and I thought something was horribly wrong with my video card, but I found out I just didn't have power going to the cord cause it was an addon cord. If you do have it plugged in, check to make sure it's not just an extension with no power.

Dont think so. High refresh rate only kicks in once the OS loads. Standard BIOS refresh is 60hz I thought.

Maybe Power supply is failing? Not enough juice to get the card working properly but just enough to POST?

sounds like a psu issue to me at this point since the card and board both check out

Doubt it... you wouldn't be able to boot into windows if you didn't connect the power adaptor to the card.

And i don't think it's a PS issue either, since it boots into windows he says.

Anyways, if your motherboard has onboard video, disable that... and if it has onboard video, it might have an option to select how it boots, with onboard video, agp, or pci first. Select AGP first.

Do you get the BIOS show, or is it just the Windows GUI that you don't get?

Try a different AGP card in your system. Surely someone you know has an old GeForce2 MX 400 or Voodoo3 2000.

have a look for dust and stuff inside the AGP slot, make sure the pins on the card are clean, and then make sure it's pushed in 100%, not sitting ontop of an AGP clip or something.

Is it a dual monitor card and you have it plugged into the wrong monitor port? I have done that before.

check the bios. make sure the integrated video, if any, is not active. somekid617. if you installed a new motherboard watch those washers between the motherboard and the case for they can screw your system. traces fry; motherboard frys

Also try going into safe mode and see if you can see anything... if so, it's probably resolution/refresh rate that are set too high or something. if not, it's probably something with hardware

I agree, if you get a desktop in safe mode then it is driver/refresh rate related. Dont do anyting till you try the f8 "safe mode". Set your refresh rate and resolution to their lowest levels et al 60/800x600 in safe mode then reboot and set to your likings in windows.
