OMG! How do touch lamps work?

It has to be something like an electrical field or inductance or something, because it isn't motion. You can hit them with a stick and they don't do anything, yet the magical touch of a finger makes them turn on!

Anyone wanna enlighten me?

perhaps you are completing the circuit when you touch it or maybe its just magic
