OMG! How Cute is this?

Right now, I am more open to getting a SDD than I was a while back. Maybe not there yet, but it is flashing brighter in the platter HDD in my little brain.

So, I started delving and I found this adorable Crucial thingy depicted on uTube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vRCgNylkOo

I luved it so much!!!

I have always liked Crucial, and recently, when I had their interactive tool read this new system, along with telling me I might consider another 8 GBs of ram so I could have total 16.... they suggested I one of their SSDs....said it came with what I NOW understand is this adorable thingy.

You guys will say it's needless and a gimmick for lame humans, but COMMON! 😎

Been doing that for almost 2 years now - but with Acronis TI on a bootable thumb drive. My Lenovo's optical has been replaced by a second HDD. I clone my Samsung 830/256GB in 8 minutes. I have a pair of them - identical- and rotate them weekly. Welcome aboard Crucial!

BTW, cloning a SSD via USB is abount 5X slower than internal SATA. 🙂

Admit it; you fell for it just because they put a lady in it. Now imagine Borat wearing a mankini doing the video. 😛

Not even close. Seriously! Two of my clients, both female, are wicked genius humans in IT: one writes code for a pretty conservative company in the UK, the other writes game code in some insane, proprietary language, here in the US of A.

Technology is not the male bastion you seem to think! (Or need to think?)

The software the cable enables the use of.....is very smarty evolved, pragmatically viable, and responds, I will bet, to a real demographic in the marketplace!!!

Truth is, among all the humans I know personally, I know more about puters than any....including all the guys! Who do U think they call/text when their systems get messed up? And I know a tiny percentage of what most helper here do, and clearly have way less experience than most helpers here!!!!! (And I mostly don mess up my mani!!!!:biggrin🙂

Now, re the Samsung promo....very slick in every element: the music track (not crazy about it, tho, I like R & B and hip hop); the carefully chosen principals, the editing, the demographic portrayed. But, its only purpose (no crime, it's called CAPITALISM), is to promote upgrading to SDDs, and Samsung per se. And Samsung (luv their phones), is the biggest, and fastest growing player in many arenas today.

The Crucial vid, a whole other animal. It addresses a viable MEANS BY WHICH the average human can do an upgrade via a proprietary product form Crucial.

EIGHT MINUTES??????????😱

Now, I am confused....are you saying this system now has no optical drive?????????

I get the huge Opti towers, cause I do internal backup, and there is also an empty bay in the optical section. Plus, the bigger the case the better the thermal flow (as long as things are engineered well, and with the Optis, they ARE).

I have always loved Crucial....my ram upgrade in this new system i am on....tho I got them on eBay=a crucial kit. And YES, NO DISSING, I have always thought their interactive read yr system and we will give suggestions tool.....is CUTE, OK?

Now, I have always used XXclone to clone my drives....as I did last week after I installed my second one in this system. It affords dual boot. When I buy beyond the free version for this system, I will, as always, be able to do iccremental updates! (It's not cheap.)

And, maybe I can contribute something: way back, I discovered an amazing German freeware which PUTS BACKUP DRIVES TO SLEEP and wakes them up at will. Not sure if it works with SSDs, but I have it in all my desktops with platter drives including this one. It is called Revosleep.

And yes, they have a 64 bit version, cause right this second, my back drive is asleep as I am in my main drive named Piggy.

It's called cloning I did this with my SSD. Where have you been? 1983 called they want that HDD brain back. LOL!

No cause for dissing, John.Or trying to make rain on parades when the sun is shining. Please, could U, lighten up? I have been cloning drives for a long time, tho clearly, not as long as you. I got my first puter, a Toshiba lappy running W95 in the 90s.

I felt this offering from Crucial was brilliant, NOT BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT CLONING....but because I felt it was sharply conceived and evolved to respond to a real need in the marketplace at LARGE.

Was not about ME.....or YOU. NO CONTEST STUFF INVOLVED. Forget...COMBAT. I don do either.

I was saying that my Lenovo T510 no longer has an optical drive installed. I replaced it with Ultrabay and a data drive. My cloneware is on a bootable thumb drive. And, yes - the time to clone my OS drive (Samsung 830/256GB to an external via eSATA is always an 8 minute job. I just did it this morning.

Most new laptops and ultrabooks do noit have optical drives any longer. If one is needed for some archaic reason, an external works fine.

Anyway, Crucial created a nice package, but a bit late. I'm sure that their software on a disk can be transferred to a flash drive. Then it would really be cute.

Well....I think the above....is also CUTE!!!!!

Eight mins....gotta get my brain around that! I have usually slaved a new drive in the box to transfer....last week, in this new system, I used Windows Easy Transfer for the first time via home network/ethernet. It worked....well written, but, of course then, I hadda get all new software. And still not finished with that.

Now, re some new lappys have no optical drives.....not entirely true; the high end ones still do, and those which do not (and I totally believe U), makin Mr. Jobs (who insisted on slot drives, not tray drives) rotate in his grave. Cause I don think they R archaic. (My only lappy is my Alienware Sentia, now kinda old; I use my phone for a lot and mainly use desktops.)

The only CPU intensive thing I do is video converting/burning to DVD (I would not be without my Verbatim DVD-RWs), so for me at least, having an optical drive is crucial (NO PUN INTENTED).

As for cute Crucial thingy being "too late,".....I always try to earn and own perspective in all endeavors and arenas, and truth is, again, most people I know personally---and I know some brilliant, amazing humans, worldclass in what they do, know nothing about the computers they use every single day, NOR....DO THEY WANNA KNOW!!!!!!! When I fix their systems, I fire up and try to teach them, tell them it's thrilling, they will be empowered.....but they don wanna know; they are just like, "Please, just fix it."

And most of them are also big into tablets outside of their work. Nobody tell me, any tablet will ever be able to replace a fine desktop or lappy!!!!

Bluetooth my Butt.:whiste: And nobody tell me, touch screen will ever come close to the precision of mousing.

Re yr sig re learning....OMG, I keep telling everyone this!!!! I think, it's the core privilege of being alive!!!!!! A great, joyful adventure!!!!! I CELEBRATE what I don't know yet, and I only wish everyone would.

Pls check out Revosleep. Not sure if it would suit your individuals needs or not, but OMG, it is sooooo cute!!!!!

And a good story it is! Well, as long as the trying is not arbitrary or compulsive.

And.....Alicia Keys already wrote and just recorded that song! Will be on her new album which will drop any min now!!!! ()🙂:whiste:

In response to no optical drives on some new lappys phenomenon.....I just wanna add, only last nite, cause at first, I am paranoid about my new/used, big bargain systems, I downloaded Dell diagnostics thingy, an ISO file I then burned to a CD, used it to boot the system and then, I ran the LONG test. And trust me, it was LONG.

Checked out every molecule of this system: hardware, software, micro organisms on the capacitors()🙂....and everything came up perfect.

But, without an optical drive, could I have done this and then felt so much happier?

Jus sayin.....

I feel like I'm on shrooms after reading this thread 😵

HOwwwwwwwww un FOR TUNATE. I apologize for putting the Gloc to yr head and forcing you to read it....pretty sure it was just PMS.

Again, chacun a son gout.

I often feel attention spans, erudition, communication in general, forget THINKING & inspiring thinking... have been truncated/eroded by such as Twitter and our addiction to texting. Not to MENTION (here it comes)....GAMING IN ISOLATION.

TANT PIS.

Hey.

Thanks for this!

Samsung's "You need one of our SDDs!" video was, however unintended, HILARIOUS, and alienating, cause the actors were so unconvincing along with the puter issues getting a new Samsung SSD mitigated (as if each one could not have been put right easily); the dialogue was so lame and patronizing, and the delivery so stilted and robotic. I was stunned. Even EMBARRASSED.

The two top comments in response to the vid......were AMAZING. If only the agency which produced this, could have had humans with the acuity of those who posted those comments!!!!

I guess Samsung just makes superior stuff, cause just from this video, it appears they are growing at warp speed in spite of their ad campaign not because of it.:|

dude dont underestimate females in our hobby.

I bet you rubyconn could slaughter everyone who posted in this section on highly technical stuff and she's a female.

Nothin but NET, from a clearly healthy male human!!!!

But, see, what I now think, from my brief presence here, is that many males already get what you share.....and, for complex reasons, just do not like it. Doesn't speak well for their level of evolved health and happiness.

THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!

Use a USB thumb drive?

Thumb drives have their place, albeit limited. Nothing can replace an optical drive. Installing software you have on official disks (just did that with this new system).....forget, nobody can burn DVDs or CDs using a thumb drive to play in other devices.

I would never buy a system without an optical drive. And that is also true for every I know personally......a very diverse group of humans, too.

For desktops I only buy the made for business/workstation Optiplexes. The biggest configuration within the line: the mini towers. Trust me, nobody will every make a workstation desktop of any kind without an optical drive.

You can burn ISO's to USB flash devices and have them appear as a USB CDROM / DVD. Many flash devices support this but it is more inconvenient than a plain optical drive.

They can be configured as normal as a removable drive or a hard drive, a floppy drive, read only optical drive (special software is needed to write the ISO) or combination of those. More than one LUN can be available too.
