OMG...guess what my car repair bill was

I've posted before about my car's engine problems. Welllllll, after 6 weeks, I got it back today. And the grand total is....
$3095
Great, isn't it? $2100 for the motor, $1000 for parts and $1100 for labor. Then they noticed my inspection was up in a week, so they thought they'd be nice and asked my dad if they could inspect it while they had it. Welll...they replaced all my brakes(they worked better BEFORE), replaced the wiring for my fog lights(since when did you need working fog lights to pass inspection?), replaced my headlights(thank you for charging me $50 for something I could have done myself in 5 minutes), and fixed my loose tilt steering wheel(the only legit thing they did in the inspection, and this isn't even done yet! I have to come back on Tuesday when they get a part in). All in all, the inspection cost me $150 in parts, and $800 or so in labor. Great isn't it? Remind me never to let my dad take my car to the GM dealer again.

ROFL you should've take it to a friend and or regular non-dealership shop.

Oh yea, its a '94 Grand Am SE, retail on the car is under $2500, for $3000 I could have junked this one and bought a '95 with under 100K miles, V6, and all the options mine doesn't have. The original quote they gave me was $1000-$1500....if I'd known it would be this much, I never would have done it.

It has been said many times before, never take your car to a dealer unless it is for warranty work.

I understand that you know, but your dad needs to be trout slapped.

Umm, I'm a bit befuddled on the math. 2100 + 1000 + 1100 = 3095 ??

2100 is the total engine replacement cost, broken down to 1000 parts and 1100 labor, 2100 + ~1000 for inspection = 3095

Don't get me started on warranties.

I have a warranty on this car. BUT, they don't pay for teardown/diagnosis, only repairs. And they demanded that the garage/dealer completely strip down the engine to find the exact cause, and then during repairs, they will only pay half of what the dealer charges, cuz the dealer charges more than a normal garage....and they only pay for half of the engine. All in all it would have cost me the same amount to go through the warranty, but taken even LONGER....rgh

Yes, not making much sense here deeko.

You actually going to pay that?

Oh my dad was 'kind' enough to loan me the money....even though when he demanded to change my oil rather than having it professionally done, he may have in fact caused the engine to die(thrown rod was the problem, he changed the oil the day before it started making noise).

Wait a second...aren't they required to show you a written estimate if charges are going to exceed $100? If so, is your dad legally allowed to sign for it if you're the one paying the bill?

I'm thinking that he is stuck. There is no way in hell that I'd pay that kind of money for GrandAm repairs. Hell I bought a Maxima last fall to drive through the winter for $2200 and it will last another 60K...

Car is in his name, cuz I was 17 when I bought it....and I don't really have a spare 3 grand lying around either.

Doh...that sucks. I'm glad my parents don't make decisions for me (my car is in their name for insurance purposes..19yo insurance here is not cheap)..🙁

So they never told you how much it was gonna cost?

Yea, they said it would be between $1000-$1500, probably closer to $1500. They assured my dad it would be near the estimate. Ended up being $2100. And then the extra grand came from the inspection that they did at the end.

OMG!

Let them keep the car. Tell them to fsck off.

That's insane. With another grand, you could have gotten a much better car.

Ewww.... definately not a good sound commin from your car in that video. 😉
