I'll say that for all of the people bashing on remakes and re-releases...

Any TRUE RPG fan breaks out the SNES at least a couple times a year and relives the glory days.

Great graphics can only take you so far. 75% of the RPGs that come out nowadays just aren't fun and have me wanting to just blow through the game ASAP to say I did it (ie Xenosaga series) rather than play through and see every intricate detail that was put in, do all of the side quests and then start over at the beginning within minutes of finishing it.

So why re-release and remake games instead of pumping new ones out? Because WE want them. Because you can't go to your local gamestop and find piles of SNES games sitting there. Because they probably get millions of fan letters every year ASKING them to do it.

Its interesting that they are basically remaking every Final Fantasy.

Yeah, all except the best one! (FF7)

Give it time though.. give it time..

uh, no, the trailer you just watched is the best one

(FFVI gets honorable mention, though i can't claim it's the best because the main character leaves too often and so she's always behind your group, and all your characters just end up double casting ultima in the end regardless of their actual class)

My faves were all in the 1-7 era.
8 sucked ass and I have 9 right now and cant get into it.
X and X-2 are just plain stupid and I dont like MMO's so 11 is out.
12 looks like it may be alright but I've been trying to rent it first.

I'll take as many remakes as they wanna sell for 1, 4 and 6. Have the GBA versions right now but the PSP titles look excellent.
The new version of 7 looks good too.

But you have to break out the NES if you want any old-school Dragon Warrior action.
Although other than the fancy graphics, DQ8's core gameplay was still the same

Wow, you have a link? I'd heard a rumor they might remake 7, but this thread was news to me. Also, the nintendo DS is their handheld right? So we're not going to see remakes that take advantage of current desktop hardware?

Screw FF! Square, why did you destroy Chrono Resurrection?!

No kidding, they should have bought up their progress so far and released it.

From the looks of it, there wasn't all that much progress. Just some excellent modeling skills, little to no programming.

I'm at work so I can't see the videos, but it doesn't look like they have anything playable, not even movable characters, which is pretty much a basic "first step" in the difference between a game and an art project.

oh goodie, and I just bought FFIV advance a few months ago. Oh well, I'm still excited because the GBA version sucks and an actual remake will be super amazingly awesome.
