OMG *FAINTS* - Superchargers = $3484798427982472094

OH MY GOD.. I was just checkin out Vortech and Paxton Supercharger kits for a 1997-1998 F-150 5.4l, and OMFG I almost sh!t myself.

Paxton kit = $3500
Vortech Kit = $3900

HOLY GOD CAN WE START A "HELP GET A WUSSY FORD UP TO SPEED" FUND?

Yeppers.. that's about what they go for. Remember that these are sold in lower volume than the base Mustang/Camaro kits..

Yessir, that is correct. I wanna make a lightning, since I can get a 1997 5.4 5 speed for roughly $15k in IMMACULATE shape...and add another 5 k or so for the extras, lightnings are still $30k 🙁

pfft. Ford and Chevy engines are just different brands of air pumps that operate on the same principles. They just put some of the bolts in different locations. (translation: you can make horsepower with either)

Only one? Where do you live?

I see them fairly frequently.

I saw one at Subway that was driven by someone my age (18 or 19 at the time). It was his dad's, but his dad was borrowing his truck to do work with.

So as he put it he was "stuck" driving the Lightning.

I was obviously born into the wrong family.

Viper GTS

The first thing Ford needs to do is throw those wuss-ass rear end gears they use in most of their pick-ups in the freekin garbage can.

I think 3.55 gears are the lowest Ford offers in the full size truck, my Expedition could use a nice 4.10 or so.

i've never seen one 🙁 no one really wants to drive a high performance truck in the amount of snow we usually get in ottawa

There's a '99 Black Lightning sitting on a dealers lot right now for $25k. It's only got 30k miles on it.
It's been sitting there for a while, so I'd bet if you really wanted to, you could walk out with it for under $23k.

Awesome deal if you ask me 🙂

True, it just depends on the different costs to make each brand go fast. And which one grenades faster/the most.

And you want to spin 5000RPM to go 70mph on the freeway? And get even worse gas mileage? 4:10s are nice, if you don't do any traveling or highway driving, but for all around use, 3:55 is great.

To the original poster:
Have you considered turbocharging? New turbochargers have nearly eliminated turbo lag, and the are a lot less parasitic that superchargers. I would think they would be $1000 or so cheaper too, and not $800.00 to rebuild. Both have their advantages.

The only thing I would wonder about Turbo charging is the exhaust cost, that and heat, those 2 are always my big factors about if I was to TC

At least you're building a nice Ford, like the Lightning. The real rip off is that Harley Davidson edition piece of monkey. I can't believe people are dropping the change to get a flareside F-150 with 20" rims, for $15K more! 😀

Hey, at least you get the HD version SC'd from the factory now 🙂

aren't turbos, at least high-pressure ones, sort of finicky? like... you have to let the car idle for a while before turning it off and things like that? and aren't they more destructive than a supercharger?

Centrifical are more to the front 😉

anyway if you are gonna do headers i'd reccomend getting ceramic coated headers, I have some nice JBA's, and I cannot express how awesome the ceramic coating has been for looks performance and it's long lasting, they still don't even look a day old even after 3 years, I run electric fans now with my conversion, and they don't hardly come on at all since I got the Ceramic coated one's, they not only cooled down the engine compartment by transferring the heat better but also the engine along with it by a large amount.... and since your thinkin forced induction I recommend it even more.

The one thing I really like about the Harley edition is now only like VI stated it's gonna be SC'd now so it's gonna be powerful and fast but I like the Extended Cab feature... in all honesty a regular cab short box just don't make much use for itself... you can't even take the whole family out for a nice day out on the boat, you have to have your wife and the kids follow, the L is a great boat tower, if I remember it's rated for 7000lbs, but the H.D. edition would be much more appealing to me with the ability to seat 5 or 6 instead of 2 or 3

if I wanted a 2 seater i'd just grab a sports car 😉
