hahaha... 🙂

For people who don't know EA signed the biggest 5 year NFL deal EVAR! That means no more Sega sports and no more improvements to the Madden series because there will be no competition.

🙁

that is an ignorant thing to say that there won't be any improvement...there is constant competition whether you see it now or not

Oh come on. I should restate what I said. The improvements will be there but they will be slight because this is EA's style.

Sega was kicking their ass and EA couldn't take the heat. With a $20 price point and real improvements year after year Sega was putting pressure on the Madden franchise.

But it's all moot. The games over for Sega.

With each new generation of consoles, the football games typically "start over" with the new hardware. There is no mistaking the impact that the Madden/ESPN war has had these past couple of years with innovation and furthering the football genre. I fear that with the new consoles being released within the next year or two, and Madden being the only game in town, there will not be much incentive to innovate as much as there has been.

While there will be improvement from year to year, the lack of direct competition definitely dulls what could've been more.

Not to turn this into a Madden/ESPN war, but Madden also had "real" improvements, it's just that every single ESPN fanboy refused to admit/see that. Remember, Sega dropped the price to $20 because they couldn't compete at the same price point. Doesn't that tell you something?

Yes, EA had a bigger advertising budget than Sega.

Not to mention they have been around for about 10 years longer than the Sega games had been. Madden had a history to fall back on and an existing customer base. It's really business 101.

If the NCAA agrees to release the rights or sell the rights.

?? The NCAA has nothing to do this this deal between EA and the NFL. The NCAA is a entire different entity upon itself, and it enforces it's only licensing rights. It's highly doubtful that the NCAA would ever turn to an exclusive licensing agreement. So yes, Sega can turn to collegiate football, but will they?

Who said the NFL deal had anythign to do with the NCAA. I was simply stating that Sega could make a college football game IF the NCAA sold them the rights to it. If it's so doubtful that the NCAA would ever have an exclusive deal, then why has there always only been one college football game?

I misunderstood what you were trying to say. Sega currently can get the rights to do a NCAA football game, it's just that they had to concentrate on their NFL product since it was getting beat so badly at retail. Their college game was doing worse than their NFL game......... They quit with the college games a couple of years ago to put all their focus on the NFL. Now that that's out of the question, maybe they can put all their focus on a college game.

EDIT: There ya go.

If the sports game is good I don't need MLB or NFL or NHL or etc etc names for the players. In fact, it's pretty frustrating. The players are constantly changing teams anyway, if you happen to root for a hometeam that sucks then you don't get to enjoy playing your team because it also sucks (if they are an accurate sim at least).

Then there's always league draft modes but you can do that with fake characters too... then give them whatever names you want. In fact, it's fun to give them names of people you know.

Still, it sucks that they do these exclusive agreements, but, it's not the end of the world. Just don't buy the game, especially not if it sucks.

I gotcha. Just shows how little marketing they did for the college game. I completely forgot that had ever come out.
