OMG - Download Accelerator actually works!

I don't believe it! I thought the whole thing was a scam. I was on AVS earlier and spotted a link to the THX - Wow! demo, which is a 350MB uncompressed DVD VOB file. The server they linked to was horrible - i got 15k, then 10, then 5. For the first 10 seconds, i downloaded a total of about 100k, and then got dropped. I tried a few more times, but no luck. Several people on the forum reported the same problems, and someone brought up Download Accelerator. I grabbed it from Download.com and voila, it works. Have been downloading at 23k for the past half-hour or so. What this thing does is it breks up files into parts (kind of like Kazaa) and opens 4 connections to the server. Since the server apparently has a per-connection speed cap, the total of 4 connections end up being a lot faster than traditional downloading. So yeah, so far so good. One thing though - this program is loaded with ads. It's extremely useful, but also extremely annoying. Does anyone happen to know of some sort of a patch to remove all this trash?

Download Accelerator does work pretty well but I believe it is spyware.

yes all download accelerators are cool but there are better ones then "Download Accelerator"

Star Downloader IMHO is teh best. you can set how manny connection it makes to the site. I have mine set on 20. It dls at about 200k/s for everything. and it has NO adds like download accelerator does. just better if you ask me. and its not addware or spyware

This server has some kind of stupid protection on. You can only download the file by clicking on it in IE. If you right-click and choose save-as, it will say 'forbidden'. If you export the link into Star Downloader, the same thing will happen. Download Accelerator starts downloading when i do a regular left click on the link though, so it works. Is there any way to get Star to do the same?

i use getright and am perfectly happy with it (i use the full "paid for" adfree version)

getright can use upto 8 connections (3 per mirror) which is plenty for me to get a steady 60 - 80kps

Yeah i found it. But it doesn't work with this server due to the stupid protection.

If its "extremely" useful, why don't you pay for it? Stop being such a cheap ass.

Have you considered that there might be a reason for the speed-cap?
