I'm trying to buy something online from eBay. But the invoice keeps adding this:

Sales Tax (8.250% in CA) : $3.63 USD

I can't get rid of it! Is this automatically added to every purchase now?? I never had this added to any purchase before.

I live in CA and just made some ebay payments and didnt have to pay tax. Maybe your seller has some tax automatically added? None of my items come from CA either.

It sounds like it's an option the user can select, not a blanket Paypal policy.

Edit: And yes, you can collect sales tax on used items (and remit it to the state).

OP should read auctions closer, they usually tell you if they collect sales tax.

The seller has to enable the feature where Paypal automatically adds the sales tax, it's not just done automatically. And there are plenty of exceptions where you do have to pay sales tax on used items.

PayPal is NOT adding the sales tax.

The seller is. Every seller has the option to charge sales tax for an item when they are listing it.

If you have beef with the sales tax, contact the seller.
